Poll question: Best veggie burgers |
|
OK - I live somewhere where there is not a wide variety of prepared vegetarian products -- so my choices are limited. Going to the store in a bit, and wondering what your favorite veggie burgers are....
Any other comments on good veggie burger options welcome!

2. Boca is more natural and organic |
|
At least that used to be the case.
Actually, my favorite is Amy's Chicago burger.

8. many Boca variety now have cheese in them. |
|
I was surprised to see cheese listed on the label of all but one variety my local Publix carries.

Boca is organic and Sams Club sells them for proper prices, bash me all you like. Given the savings compared to regular stores is about 50% ($10 for 16 patties there, or $5 for 4 patties anywhere else!), regular stores are undoubtedly fleecing consumers to some extent...
Morningstar - they fleece people even more and product quality is so-so.
Unfortunately, I was a vegetarian for a while. Left to eat meat again. Going back to a low cholesterol diet, I tried Boca again but they taste like beans. I don't know why I didn't understand the bean taste originally.

I'm not a vegetarian. I like veggie burgers though. I like them plain...I like them on a grill...I like them with bacon or cheese or both.

6. Morningstar Grillers Prime |

I'm not a vegetarian, but I always keep some of these in my freezer for those times when a meatless burger fix is what my tummy is craving.

Was a vegetarian for a few years. You pay a premium for the quality, but I still find myself picking up some Amy's burgers from time to time.

9. If anyone has a good recipe for veggie burgers please post it! |
|
I used to work in a restaurant where we made the most amazing veggie burger out of oatmeal and peanut butter, but I've lost the recipe and I can't duplicate it to save my life. Store bought veggie burgers are so expensive, and don't really taste that good. :(
I prefer morningstar farms, the boca burgers don't taste good at all to me. :hi:

14. Morningstar's Black Bean Burgers are yummy |
|
Particularly garnished with blue cheese and vidalia onions. Boca burgers are too bland for my taste - same goes for tofu. I was vegetarian for years, but I never made peace with tofu. To me it tastes like chunks of sponge. Other vegetarians told me to cook with an interesting sauce, but then it tasted like sauce-flavored sponge. The only people who seem capable of cooking tofu I'd actually want to eat are Thai.
Seitan has a more interesting texture, but then it's wheat gluten, and that's gotten really bad press lately.

I shouldn't have soy (wreaks havoc with a messed-up thyroid), and Gardenburgers have less than your average veggie burger. Plus they're yummy.
Like their black bean burger too.
Hmm...I think I need to stock up on both. I've been away from them too long...!

I like the texture better than other brands like Boca and the original Gardenburger has the best flavor of any commercial veggie burgers that I've eaten.

Their burgers are for shit, but I do enjoy substituting a Gardenburger (or is it a black bean burger? it's been a while since I've darkened the door of a Chili's).

23. Morningstar Farms Grillers Prime |
|
...like TommyO said upthread. I haven't eaten beef (or any other kind of meat) for almost 4 years, and of the kinds of veggie burgers I've tried so far (imo) Grillers Prime taste most like the way I remember beef tasting.

25. Masala Burgers from Trader Joes... |
|
For those of you lucky enough to have a Trader Joes, and like veggie burgers, and if you like Indian food -- YOU MUST try these. They are so tasty and that is an understatement (not hot, just tasty). They are potato based, not soy, so they are different in texture than most veggie burgers. Oh they are heavenly. I want one NOW. :)

Plus, the guy at the counter always got a laugh out of it, but I don't really trust ground beef that much.
