Why can't I do a screen capture in Windows Media Player? |
This is version 9 on Win2000. Every time I pause the video and do an Alt-PrintScreen and paste it into Paint or some other app, it looks like grabbed it but then when I try to crop it or quit MP I lose the image. Is this some kind of copy protection scheme or is there some trick I'm missing?

1. I've had this problem before. |
For some reason, the image you capture stays in the same place on your monitor where Media Player was when you did the capture. I think I got around this problem by putting Media Player in fullscreen mode before doing a screen cap. I hope that made sense.

2. Yes, I've fiddled with it like that before |
including doing a capture without pausing first. But it always seemed hit or miss and I was wondering what I was missing.

12. Go download Gadwin Print screen. I used it just now to capture from Windows Media player. |
You can search for it in Google.

3. I recommend MediaPlayerClassic for this. It's a free & small |
download & far more versatile than the Windows version.

4. VLC media player also has a snapshot function. |
It's free, and it will play damn near any video format. http://www.videolan.org/

7. I had trouble finding my snapshots at first. |
I believe they are saved in "My Pictures" in XP, iirc. The VLC FAQ page tells you where they are, if that's the problem you're experiencing.

8. Yep, I just discovered where they were going. I'd rather choose my directory |
myself. Thanks for the response. Iam using VLC more these days, as it's also faster than MPC, but MPC plays many RealPlayer files which VLC won't.

It's somewhere in the preferences- said preferences being far more complex and versatile than any paid Windoze app.
Ya gotta love open source.

11. Go to the preferences |
and look for 'Video acceleration.' Move the slider to Zero, and you'd be able to make screenshots.
