Why can't I do a screen capture in Windows Media Player?
This is version 9 on Win2000. Every time I pause the video and do an Alt-PrintScreen and paste it into Paint or some other app, it looks like grabbed it but then when I try to crop it or quit MP I lose the image. Is this some kind of copy protection scheme or is there some trick I'm missing?

1. I've had this problem before.
For some reason, the image you capture stays in the same place on your monitor where Media Player was when you did the capture. I think I got around this problem by putting Media Player in fullscreen mode before doing a screen cap. I hope that made sense.

2. Yes, I've fiddled with it like that before
including doing a capture without pausing first. But it always seemed hit or miss and I was wondering what I was missing.

12. Go download Gadwin Print screen. I used it just now to capture from Windows Media player.
You can search for it in Google.

3. I recommend MediaPlayerClassic for this. It's a free & small
download & far more versatile than the Windows version.

4. VLC media player also has a snapshot function.
It's free, and it will play damn near any video format.

6. I use VLC for "broken" & difficult files, but can't get the snapshot
function to work.

7. I had trouble finding my snapshots at first.
I believe they are saved in "My Pictures" in XP, iirc. The VLC FAQ page tells you where they are, if that's the problem you're experiencing.

8. Yep, I just discovered where they were going. I'd rather choose my directory
myself. Thanks for the response. Iam using VLC more these days, as it's also faster than MPC, but MPC plays many RealPlayer files which VLC won't.

9. You can specify any directory you wish

It's somewhere in the preferences- said preferences being far more complex and versatile than any paid Windoze app.

Ya gotta love open source.

5. Never ascribe to intentional design
that which you can blame on MicroSoft sucking.

11. Go to the preferences
and look for 'Video acceleration.' Move the slider to Zero, and you'd be able to make screenshots.
