Anyone else watch the Planet Earth series from BBC? |
|
Unbelievable filming. I spend the whole time saying, "How did they get that shot?" We downloaded it in HD and it's totally worth the huge file!(I think a single episode in HD is 3 or 4 gigs.) With the digital video projector making a 52 inch screen on the wall and the quality of the image, we're in heaven. :D
Anyone else a fan of this series? It's won every award going for documentaries and cinematography.

We ordered our DVDs from the BBC so we'd get the David Attenborough narrated version. It's amazing they'd pay a guy 3 years of effort to film 30 seconds of snow leopard activity.

3. Whatever we DL'd had the David Attenborough narration. |
|
I didn't know there was any other narration! His voice is perfect, although he does get a little too excited sometimes when there's about to be a killin. :D

There was much amazement expressed in the Lounge when it came out a few months back. We watched several episodes, but then it filled up TiVo and they got deleted. So I bought the DVD set (cheapest price was on amazon). Did you D/L the "making of" episode?
Took them five years. Sometimes they'd wait hours and hours for a single shot. The one of the snow leopard in the Himalayas, they had waited in the snow all day. Another one of animals in the grasslands, the photographer had to bury himself in the ground in 104 degree heat, because there were no trees to hide behind.
Absolutely breathtaking and incredible. Kudos to BBC and Discovery Channel for this. I heard about this being on BBC last year, but didn't get here until March.
The DVD set has David Attenborough's original narration, instead of Sigourney Weaver's. He created the original "Life on Earth" back in 1979, and was the producer of this series as well. Discovery used Sigourney b/c they thought Americans wouldn't be able to understand Attenborough's accent :eyes: I like her as an actress, but his voice seems to fit it better.

5. No, we didn't DL the making of episode! |
|
I'd love to see that! I was just baffled by how they got some of the shots. So mindblowing!
Oh, I didn't even know Sigourney Weaver did the American version! She has a nice voice, but how stupid. David Attenborough is absolutely perfect, and there hasn't been a single time that I've had trouble understanding his accent. :wtf:

13. More than worth buying, at nearly ANY price. |

Hands down the finest nature documentary I have ever seen in my life, by far. I was totally blown away.
(But, you know, if someone, and I'm not saying who, could just DL it for free, then, you know, that would be good too. Not that it's not worth the money. Because it is.)
