7. The original Hairspray |

One of my favorites. Ricki Lake is SO likeable and perfect in the lead role. Divine is terrific, and actually looks like he could be Ricki's biological mother in it. Such a change from John Water's earlier movies (which I like, also). And how can you not like a movie with a cameo by Pia Zadora playing a beatnik?
I really enjoyed the new musical version, too. I didn't think I would like John Travolta as Edna, but I thought he was excellent.
