15. Well, in that case... |
|
'lesser' could imply less diversification over time. For example, yeasts. It's not a judgement of yeast's worth, it's how they have stayed basically the same since the Cambrian era.

19. homo sapiens have stayed virtually the same since they came into existence |
|
if there is dramatic change within a species you end up with a new species. As such there are many species of yeast even though there still exist a class of organisms that we call yeast. Just as there is still a class mammalia even though there are many different species within it.
Diversity is not a function of any given organism, but a description of how many different types of organisms exist within an ecosystem.

The main difference here being that protohumans arose approximately 3 million years ago, and yeasts arose about 2 1/2 billion years ago. Of course, the changes within species have been minimal over time for both groups, but the time periods are drastically different.
Also, I wasn't talking about diversity. But hey...

"Human life strives ceaselessly to perfect itself, to gain ascendancy. But what of the lower forms of life? Is it not possible that they, too, are conducting experiments, and are at this moment on the threshold of deadly success?"
"When the yearning to gain ascendancy takes the form of a soulless, loveless struggle, the contest must end in unlovely defeat. For without love, drones can never be men, and men can only be drones."

42. The dominant "creatures" on Earth are bacteria. |
|
They dominate in every sense of the word. There were here long before we were and will be here after we and all other large animals are gone. They live in hostile places where complex plants or animals could never exist. There are more e-coli in your digestive tract right now than than there have ever been humans on Earth.

54. Every time someone tries to pick something |
|
we end up finding it being done by some other species who found a use or desire to do the same thing  So I'm not picking :) And as someone else said earlier, there's really no such thing as a lessor species.
Or course there is the whole Hedge Fund thing...that might be a safe bet on something that separates us from "other" species. ;)
