We also had tickets for the concert he was scheduled to do that night. Stupidly, I turned the tickets ($15 measley bux each) in for the cash refund. But I still have the Press Scimitar and Commercial Appeal from that day.

I think the Press Scimitar is now out of business.

Any idea what these pop culture artifacts might be worth?

1. Ah, hell! Elvis died!?!
How come I never hear these things?

Check out Ebay. You can search finished auctions to see what memorabilia has sold for there. You can probably Google memorabilia auction sites to find contacts who can give you an estimate. Be careful--probably just as many will rip you off.

I have an old newspaper I found at my great, great aunt's house in New Orleans, from the Sunday after Kennedy was killed. It fills in all the information they had on Oswald at the time (he had lived in New Orleans before Dallas, so there was local info in the story). The story on Oswald ends with the sentence "Oswald is scheduled to be transfered from the Dallas police headquarters to the Dallas County Jail this morning."

3. Everything is worth precisely what someone will pay for it

The Commercial Appeal may sell originals or reproductions of that issue. If that's the case, it might affect your bargaining power, depending on how many people are aware of it.

Edit: That issue of the Press-Scimitar may have some additional value because the paper stopped publishing in 1983.

5. I heard it this morning
They had a bunch of look-alikes doing his music on the CBS morning show.

Yup ... they said he's still dead.

6. I have no idea! I do remember, though, what I was doing on that day 30 years ago.
