Has anyone ever built a fountain?
Was it a pain or was it a joy?

3. A couple, actually...
The pumps are readily available... or you can use water from a tap.

I need to know what you are interested in doing.

There are many different kinds of fountains, y'know. ;)

5. I've got a picture linked in the OP
the water flows from the top basin out over the rim into the second basin where it then flows over the rim into the third basin where it presumedly recirculates.

Good times. :D

8. It's an inspiration to us all:
The fountain on the Dry Tortugas, possibly the birdiest fountain in the world. :D

9. I created one fountain when I connected my sprinkler system...
to my birdie bath to keep it full of fresh water.

Minimum of what you need for a fountain:

1 water source or recirculating pump, 1 hose hooked to the output side of said pump,
1 large container, 1 smaller container or object for the water to flow over, water or
other liquidity substance.

Set out large container, connect hose to water source or pump, place hose aesthetically
on edge of smaller container or water flow object, (fill large container with water and
activate pump or turn on water source feeding hose).

Sit back... enjoy for a few minutes... Enjoy the sound of running water...
(Rush off seeking a restroom ;) )

14. Question
I inherited a small pond with a fountain in it. It seems to be of the recirculating type, and the switch to turn it on is on the wall in my dining room. Can I convert this to solar power somehow? I never turn it on because it just wastes electricity!

17. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner...
I'd think you could easily convert it to solar.

You'd have to either match the solar panel's voltage/current output to those required by the
existing pump or get a new matched solar panel/recirculating pump combo.

19. No prob.
Thanks for the info. I just wasn't sure about disconnecting the electricity. In fact, I can't even tell where the cord runs!

10. I built this thing...

It's actually more of an in-ground bird bath, but there's a pump that circulates water and creates a little fountain effect at one end. It wasn't very difficult to put together.

11. Husband has - bunches of them (stone mason)
If I could I would do one of those kits from the homebox store with the plastic ponds you just stack rocks around, but that isn't allowed around here, meanwhile I can't afford his work so I got no fountain.

20. I kept meaning to build a little one for my frog's tank
but I never got around to it. I couldn't find a small enough water pump. :)
