Best Elton John Song Evah!

Tiny Dancer

Music by Elton John
Lyrics by Bernie Taupin

Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

Jesus freaks out in the street
Handing tickets out for God
Turning back she just laughs
The boulevard is not that bad

Piano man he makes his stand
In the auditorium
Looking on she sings the songs
The words she knows, the tune she hums

But oh how it feels so real
Lying here with no one near
Only you and you can't hear me
When I say softly, slowly

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
you had a busy day today

Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

5. Isn't it an awesome song
Just love it

one of my favorite uses of the song recently (besides just hearing it) was in the movie Almost Famous... such a cool scene on the bus when they all sang it.

18. The music in Almost Famous is what makes the film.
I also love America by Simon and Garfunkel

"Let us be lovers we'll marry our fortunes together"
"I've got some real estate here in my bag"
So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner pies
And we walked off to look for America
"Kathy," I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh
"Michigan seems like a dream to me now"
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
I've gone to look for America

Laughing on the bus
Playing games with the faces
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said "Be careful his bowtie is really a camera"

"Toss me a cigarette, I think there's one in my raincoat"
"We smoked the last one an hour ago"
So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field

"Kathy, I'm lost," I said, though I knew she was sleeping
I'm empty and aching and I don't know why
Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike
They've all gone to look for America
All gone to look for America
All gone to look for America

2. I beg to differ, darlin'.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTa8U0Wa0q8

"Your Song" is his best, imo. :loveya: He's my b'day buddy, btw! Cool, huh? :hi:

It's a little bit funny this feeling inside
I'm not one of those who can easily hide
I don't have much money but boy if I did
I'd buy a big house where we both could live

If I was a sculptor, but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a travelling show
I know it's not much but it's the best I can do
My gift is my song and this one's for you

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world

I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss
Well a few of the verses well they've got me quite cross
But the sun's been quite kind while I wrote this song
It's for people like you that keep it turned on

So excuse me forgetting but these things I do
You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue
Anyway the thing is what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen

8. He's got many greats, truly. I tend to like his older stuff better.
I remember an interview of his I read a long time ago in which he said the thing he was MOST proud of in his life was conquering his addictions. It wasn't about writing so many popular songs or becoming so successful, financially, it was about how he overcame his own inner demons to live a more fulfilling life. I thought that was pretty cool. THAT is true success.

13. thanks for the kudos!
thankfully the gig was in the acute psych ward at the local hospital, so I had a "captive" audience! I may even put the date on the 2007 tour shirts

I will have to record it soon-- I brought my pocket digital recording studio to mom's, and I've had requests for it. Plus I've got a couple new tunes I'm trying to knock into shape before a possible gig next friday, so that's yet another excuse to get it done.

I'll definitely let you know when it's posted. Now that I'm out of the hospital I need to do something with myself before I go crazy (oh wait, too late)...

I really got in to him because he was the only other gay person I knew of. I have seen him in concert five times. I was crushed when he got married, but was thrilled when he officially came out.

25. My choice:
for favorite Elton John song:
'Believe' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPxstfxiYO8

I believe in love, it's all we got
Love has no boundaries, costs nothing to touch
War makes money, cancer sleeps
Curled up in my father and that means something to me
Churches and dictators, politics and papers
Everything crumbles sooner or later
But love, I believe in love

I believe in love, it's all we got
Love has no boundaries, no borders to cross
Love is simple, hate breeds
Those who think difference is the child of disease
Father and son make love and guns
Families together kill someone
Without love, I believe in love

Without love I wouldn't believe
In anything that lives and breathes
Without love I'd have no anger
I wouldn't believe in the right to stand here
Without love I wouldn't believe
I couldn't believe in you
And I wouldn't believe in me
Without love

I believe in love
I believe in love
I believe in love

this one has special meaning to me

The Last Song

Music by Elton John
Lyrics by Bernie Taupin
Available on the album The One

Yesterday you came to lift me up
As light as straw and brittle as a bird
Today I weigh less than a shadow on the wall
Just one more whisper of a voice unheard

Tomorrow leave the windows open
As fear grows please hold me in your arms
Won't you help me if you can to shake this anger
I need your gentle hands to keep me calm

`Cause I never thought I'd lose
I only thought I'd win
I never dreamed I'd feel
This fire beneath my skin
I can't believe you love me
I never thought you'd come
I guess I misjudged love
Between a father and his son

Things we never said come together
The hidden truth no longer haunting me
Tonight we touched on the things that were never spoken
That kind of understanding sets me free

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAqZ75ys_Ng

shit, shit, shit...
David.... miss you hon....

oh yeah.... the whole Yellow Brick Road Album is
totally awesome

nothing can compare.....
