It's ALWAYS somethin'. If it ain't one thing, it's another...
Edited on Thu Aug-16-07 10:09 PM by MorningGlow
Take tonight, for example. My car door fell off. Plunk.

Downside: I got no ride tomorrow or the next day or till whenever it gets fixed; that means MG Jr. and I will be housebound and will start to go stir crazy on each other.

Upside: It held till I got home, and I didn't have Jr. in the car. Also it looks like a fairly inexpensive repair (metal fatigue of the hinge--it just rusted out). I just need to find a Jeep Wrangler hinge and pin ASAP.

Still...It's ALWAYS somethin'. If it ain't one thing, it's another...

2. It's a trip, lemme tell ya
Had a bit of trouble with it earlier today, thought it was the latch stiffening up. Nope. Giant chunk of hinge fell off. Whaddya know.

No duct tape here either, but I do have a bungee cord holding the door closed (across the driver's seat to the oh-my-god bar on the passenger side) to make sure the dome light doesn't stay on and wear my battery down. To quote Caddyshack, "Oh gad, dat's all I need."

Wait a minnit...duct tape...hm....

I'm feeling better now. I do use your Caddyshack quote quite a lot as well! (I used to watch Changing Rooms on BBC America just to see Maggie again--gawrsh I don't even remember the actress' name. :eyes: )

4. You might try a junkyard
I've found a lot of oddball parts like that at junkyards for very reasonable prices.

7. I did try that this morning, thanks!
The local junkyard let me down, alas. Didn't have it. But it's still a fairly cheap part (under $100) and I'm used to paying hundreds upon hundreds for repairs to my beloved 7-year-old Wrangler. (Why? "Because it's paid for!" Better to have occasional repair costs than a monthly car payment.) So I just ordered a new one from the local Jeep dealer. Too bad, really. DH and I were hoping to find an old junked replacement part that would be some oddball color that would clash with my Jeep's color--then I'd know I REALLY have a tried-and-true paid-for well-worn vehicle.
:hi:
