Any math people out there?
I have a large piece of paper 12 inches wide by 21 inches tall. Someone is giving me 10% of that measurement in which to draw a picture (one contiguous rectangle or square). What is the size of my picture?

Not a trick question.

6. You were taking ten percent of each side, instead of the area.
Leaving you with a mere 1 percent to work in.

3. Multiply the side by the length (12 by 21, in this case)
That's your total area.

Take ten percent of that (that is, divide it by ten) - that's how much area you have to work with.

Then its up to you to decide if you want a square, or a long rectangle, or a not so long rectangle... just choose two side lengths that when multiplied equal the area you are allowed to work in.

As another mentioned, you have 25.2 square inches in which to work.

Which leaves a lot of white space, doesn't it?
