HELP!!! I have no fashion sense.
What looks good on a petite frame?

I need to go shopping and all I see are fashions for skinny, young girls. Like teeny tiny sizes.

What will look GOOD on a thirty-something gal? What to avoid?.

I really need help. :(

2. I know what you're asking
but I just wanted to point out that what looks good has no direct connection with fashion.

Apart from that, I'm a guy, so therefore I have no idea. :hi:

3. For what situation?
1. If you have any tailoring skills or know a good tailor, buy anything you like and have it tailored to fit you.

2. Avoid fads. Waste of money and rarely flattering to anyone.

3. Macy's is having a sale. Right now. Their petite section is nice. I usually find most department store clothing to be either too young for me (i.e. low-low riding jeans) or too dowdy (paisley is no one's friend). However, Macy's has a nice selection.

4. I usually wear suits to work, but I buy most of my actual life clothing from the Ross or the clearance rack at Macys. These are sometimes the same thing.

4. I'm going on a vacation next month.........
1) don't want to look like a tourist. :)

2) want to look somewhat sophisticated. I'm a little tired of my jeans and short sleeve top look. Maybe a jacket, or neat new blouses. I just don't know what would really suit my shape.

3) Yeah, I'm not into fads or trends (obviously, I'm clueless about finding things to wear!)

5. Where are you going?
Linen is always good. While it does wrinkle, something I never cared about :P , it keeps you cool. I am a short, petite 56 yr. old and wear whatever I darned well please. I, personally, like baggy pants, and sleeveless linen or gauze blouses. Gauze skirts are always fun, too, as are sundresses. My point is, dress for you, if you know what I mean.

6. khaki or light weight cotton knee length shorts or capris
in neutral colors, with either open collar campshirts, cotton T-style solid shirts are always acceptable. Or cool pastel knee length cotton or linen blend shorts with lightweight matching tops look very nice. I scored a nice mint green outfit not too long ago.

I second Macy's, and Dillard's if you have one near you. JCPenny also has good Petite section. I am 5'4" and currently wearing size 10 Petites. They are cut for short persons, including the stride of pants actually being where it should be. Misses' sizes are just too long in the stride for me.

Dockers makes some very comfortable cotton capris and regular length pants. Those cute printed campshirts add a nice touch and you can get a solid color tank or shell to wear under it if you like.

I would not ever travel without one pair of comfy jeans just in case and I always wear good walking shoes (sandals if I need to look dressier but tennies or hiking boots rest of the time)

If you are going to a beach/tropical area, you will want to pick up a sarong when you get there that goes with your bathing suit. You can tie it around your waist over your suit and walk into a restaurant and eat dinner. I love beach communities because they are so casual.

7. Hmm.
If I wanted to blend in, I guess I'd shop at my destination.

11. Kali's travel advice:
comfort, prints (don't show dirt), more underwear, less shoes

Have fun!

12. To enhance the frame of a shorter person,
whether overweight or not, choose solid colours over any type of print. Prints are too 'busy' on a petite stature. Give any cropped t-shirts or short jackets a pass. Ditto any horizontal stripe. You don't need to be 'chopping up' the vertical visual lines any more than they already are. Longer, thigh length sweaters, blouses, shirts will present a better line. Wear any shirts or blouses out rather than tucked in.

13. Talbott's
Try Talbott's petites. A lot of the stuff will seem too old, but they have some younger looking things that fit my 5'2" size 4 daughter right off the rack. They have good sales too, and the salespeople will actually help you.
