What are you listening to this weekend? |
|
Like I said on another thread, I just heard samples from Augie March. I ordered the CD from Amazon Vine free (a service they give to reviewers they find helpful,) and I'm likely going to give it a great review.
Also heard lately:
Eisley - Combinations (not as wistful, but the new edge complements the beauty perfectly! They are very graceful.)
Rilo Kiley - Under The Blacklight (a very adventurous mix of alt country, 80s dance, modern pop, and R&B - there's no power pop hit like "Portions For Foxes," but the CD was so delectable that I didn't care. Jenny Lewis's lively vocals also help the CD.)
Lori McKenna - Unglamorous (the music is good, with lyrics being her strongest point. The music is a bit samey and her vocals aren't super strong, but Tim McGraw and Byron Gallimore don't overproduce.)
New Pornographers - Challengers (more pop brilliance with some of their prettiest songs - "Challengers," "Go Places," and "Adventures In Solitude.")

Whatever the hell I can drudge up on YouTube. :D Spent the morning listening to cuts from Boz Scaggs's commerical hit Silk Degrees (1976).
I jsut have to say I admire the complete wideness (for lack of a better word!) of your musical taste. I'm a self-admitted music snob, and don't usually care to listen to music that hasn't been revered as something thoughtful or at least technically superb. Your openness to all genres of music impresses me very much and makes me somewhat guilty over my rather limited musical scope (jazz, classic rock, classic soul).

2. Thanks, WritingIsMyReligion! |

I appreciate the kind words. I have my favorite genres (classic rock, power pop, pop/rock, rock, folk, Motown, and classical,) but am open to more, and I enjoy having my own independent opinions. I don't fault anyone for their listening styles, though. We like what we like. :hi:

I'm pretty crazy with my music--when I like something, I listen to it exclusively for days. This morning I listened to Scaggs's "Lowdown" literaly 10 or 12 times in a row, just because the beat was extremely satisfying to me. :D

I'll give it a listen. Have a good weekend!
I should add indie pop to my favorites list.

I'm in the process of ripping my entire CD collection. I'm on #45 of about 600. Currently, Van Morrison's "Too Long In Exile"

Bean's is such a freakin' Repub corporate machine, but free is good these days. A couple of weeks ago I saw Arlo Guthrie. John Hiatt & Shawn Colvin are going to be there next weekend.
