1. I sponsor a child in Matamoros, |
|
and suddenly sponsoring a child seems a lot more real. He's in an orphanage there, left by his mother as an infant. He goes to a public school, and is cared for by the orphanage staff. We write each other, and I send extra funds at holidays (not supposed to send in-kind gifts, but let the staff decide what he needs). I've really come to care for him.
A little while ago, the Weather Channel showed a projected "cone of possibility" or whatever they call it. Matamoros is smack in the middle of it!! I'm worried sick! I've e-mailed the orphanage (which I'm not supposed to do--all communication is supposed to be through the mission board, but the orphanage has a website with contact info, so hey!) to ask if I could wire extra money to help get him to a safe place, whether my church could do something to help the other kids, etc.
I'm just worried sick. And feeling helpless. It may be as strong as a cat 5 when it hits Mexico.
Worried, worried, worried.

4. Mexico may be hit as late as Wednesday |
|
They say that by then it may be a cat 5. That's what scares me. But I hope the early warning means people--including David and the others at the orphanage--have time to evacuate. Here's NOAA's predicted path thru Thursday: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at4+shtml/202526.shtml?5day#contents

3. that's a bad looking hurricane |
|
and it hasn't hit the warm waters of the gulf yet.
it's bad enough already, let's hope that it doesn't devastate Jamaica or anywhere else... scary storm though for sure.
