Is it couth or uncouth?
My cousin invited me to her wedding this month. In the wedding invitation was a statement that instead of gifts, "monetary donations are appreciated."

Hmmmm......to me that seemed a little uncouth?

What's the rule here? Was that statement acceptable according to the rule book of good manners?

Just wondering.

1. Yes, it is uncouth to ask for money.

2. I think in this day and age
some of the old fashioned ideals have gone out the door....
It might be what they need.
I'm going to a wedding where you can buy part of the honey moon for the couple
knowing them, and they can't really afford it, this is a great idea....

does she need the money??
If it makes you feel better you could always get something like a visa check card

Not sure what the rules are anymore.....

6. I haven't kept in contact with my cousin much.
So, I'm not sure how hard up they are for cash. It just makes me wonder what they'll do with the money. I thought the whole point of wedding gifts was to give you start on your "home" together because purchasing all of those things (i.e. pots, pans) can be very expensive.
If they don't need that, what will the money be for?

4. Meh, what difference does it really make?
I mean, couth/uncouth whatever... if they need money then maybe they are asking for what they need. They may not need 5 toasters or a food processor.

Maybe they are going to use the money for something that no one person would buy due to it's cost.

I dunno, it wouldn't bother me though...

5. You made that up
There's not really a rule book of good manners, is there?

I've never seen it. Heck, I can't even imagine wanting to!

7. I did make that up.
:hi:

I meant it to be symbolic of what is generally considered good manners.

8. Shwew.
I thought maybe I finally understood why my in-laws won't let me eat at their good table anymore.
