Sleeping on the floor tonight on a futon once again.
Sold my 1953 Heywood Wakefield King Size bookcase headboard, mattress, box spring, 2 dressers and 2 night stands today.

Yes, when you are facing personal financial ruin and the bankruptcy lawyer needs more money than you have (ironic, huh?) you will do whatever it takes.

and it was our wedding bedroom set, a present to ourselves. So it's probabaoly a good thing...

So tonight, a borrowed futon on the floor.

:sigh:

6. No money. Just vibes.
I am in this mess from my own choices. My own decisions. My own, well, you know.

I'll wade thru it and get out on the other side someday stronger than I was. And maybe be able to help someone else.

9. Damn, RL
I hate hate hate to see a bookstore owner fall on financial hard times. I've worked at independent bookstores and one of those nasty chains, and there isn't even a comparison. If I had a magic lamp one of my wishes would be to see anyone who creates or promotes literature raised up on a pedestal comparable to the one MBAs are always on (no--scratch that--higher) and a thriving independent bookstore on every corner with lines around the block.

Chin up, RL. It'll get better. The Lounge demands it!

The bookstore is a whole separate thing, and will be kept out of this. and on a good note, had a killer day of sales there.

10. FUCK! I wound up selling a Heywood Wakefield rocker during my breakup.
Of all the pieces that I've had in my life, that one hurt the most. I still don't have a proper bed, or rocker after four years, but my life is coming back together again (especially since I finally told my family to stop mentioning my ex!)

I've sold the Heywood lazy susan coffee table and the end tables. I have a full ahscraft liveing room set for sale now. and a pair of step end tables and a corner table. All in Wheat. Also the STBE is selling her prized Desk/Chest and maybe the Full Dining Suite too.

Can't imagine life with bland new-ish furniture. Been retro for so long...

A dresser and a buffet, both of which see everyday use. I'm past the hard part and the buffet has a huge emotional attachment - the rest of my furniture is casual contemporary, think Crate and Barrel, or family donations.

68. Heywood Wakefield?
Wow... there's a blast from the past. That plant was local to me as I was growing up.

I'm sorry you had to part w/ it. That some quality stuff there.

73. My sympathies
I'm in the same sort of a pickle. Sold all my jewelry a couple months ago, then a few of my better pieces of oak furniture. I've had an ad on Craigslist for my appliances but no takers thus far :( I've been offered a couple rooms at a friend's house in Edgerton but it would be 4 hours on the road a day taking my kids to and from school so I'd only have them on weekends and I couldn't live with myself if I did that. Likewise, because of the kids, it's too early in my new relationship to shack up.

It's a tough spot to be in and society loves to kick you when you're down. My gut tells me that you and I are only the beginning of a trend of bad times ahead for America. Here's to better times ahead.

79. I've been there
The thought uppermost in my mind was that of gratitude that I had a floor.

Hang in, Retro - after all, it can only get better, right?
