As I posted last week we have a horrific storm here in Richmond VA Thursday night into Friday morning.

The official total in is:

From Jan. 1 to Thursday at 6 p.m., lightning struck the region about 38,000 times, according to Dominion Virginia Power. <-- that is ALL YEAR

From 6 p.m. Thursday to 3 a.m. yesterday, the company recorded 38,500 lightning strikes.

Yeah it was that bad. And we got hit hard again last night-the local CBS station had their third string guy doing cut ins everything seemed to be East of the city so I didn't think much of the rain that was starting up. Next thing I know there is water coming in UNDER one of our windows upstairs and this morning I go out to find our garden basically at a 45 degree cant.

I think God is trying to kill me. If you are up there, HELP ME SUPERMAN!!!

1. Turns out my house was struck twice on Thursday.
:wow:

No damage, but yikes.

3. About three years ago, when we were adding on to the house,
the electrician talked us into this circuit breaker thingy that would allow the house to be struck without allowing any electricity to actually 'enter' the house. (I'm sure that isn't the correct terms, but it's how I understood it)

Anyway, there are three breakers that glow green until they are tripped. Two were tripped.

Makes sense because my office A/C isn't working as well as it had been prior to the storm.

4. Your "circuit-breaker-thingy" is a whole-house surge protector.
Worth it's weight in gold, it is. Especially around these parts.

5. Why thank you, kind sir. You'll note that electric speak
isn't my speciality.

It did do the job, Thursday, that's for sure. A few years back, we went out of town and returned to find all the TVs, VCRs, and the microwave friend.

Absolutely worth its weight in gold.

6. Best thing you can do if you are home is UNPLUG EVERYTHING
And DON"T forget about the cable for TV and cablemodem/DSL. Even with a whole-house surge protector, we take no chances - Mrs. Rat and I have a routine where we can get everything in the house unplugged and offline in less than two minutes.

8. Yep - that was a scary one. Worse than the lightening, however,
was the wind out our way (I love lightening). I was honestly prepared to Duck'n'Cover in the bathtub. Luckily we only lost a beloved tree and our mailbox, which was devoured by the aforementioned Beloved Tree.
