Poll question: Which side of the bed do you & your spouse sleep on?
My husband wants to change sides of the bed with me. We've each slept on our respective sides of the bed for years. I am curious to know if there is side of the bed that men or women prefer. (side of the bed defined as when you're laying down on your back with your head on the pillow) (Keep it clean please!)

4. Other
male right / male left

By your definition, I sleep on the right. (But I always thought of it as the left side - standing at the foot of the bed looking towards the head)

5. Whichever side is OUT or closer to the bathroom...
I have to pee in the middle of the night, so I need to be on the outside.

an entire queen-size bed to myself. Can I still vote in the poll, just for the hell of it?

9. That how it works for us too
I don't think we plan it that way, but that's how it always seems to work. I don't think it's a coincidence. :-)

Even on vacation, Mrs. Robb gets whatever side is closest to the john.

13. I'm on the left
but it's for a different reason. I don't go back to sleep easily once I'm woken up. After 12 + years of being the parent woken in the middle of the night by our children, I moved to the outside spot. They mostly wake him up first unless they are very sick or upset.

14.  and what about who steals the covers?
My husband always insists it is me. I sleep on the left. It has always been this way. I have no idea why. And my son always comes around the bed to wake me up when he is upset or wandering. It's kind of sweet acutally.

This way I can roll over and reach out with my left hand to take back the blankets that Mrs Crow is hogging (I'm left-handed).

Lefty (get stolen covers)
Driver's side

Whenever I bring up the "Driver's side" thing people look at me like I'm crazy.

17. Um
What about the gay and lesbian couples? My partner and I tend to change sides every few months or so. Each of us gets tired of sleeping on the same side. So for me it really doesn't matter.

19. I didn't answer the poll...
...because it isn't suited to us gay folk.

But nevertheless standing at the foot of the bed and looking towards the head, Sappho sleeps on the right, and I sleep on the left. Although she would probably say that she sleeps on this tiny little section on the right and I have the rest. ;)

21. Here's the macho he-man answer
The guy is supposed to sleep on the side of the bed closest to the bedroom door so that he can protect the gal in the event an intruder enters the room. This way the guy would get the stuffing kicked out of him instead of the woman - at least that's what my wife said when she explained why she was claiming the left side of the bed. :silly:

(he works nights 4-5 nights a week)
He sleeps on the left, and I sleep on the right. Every so often we change it.

Someday inclusiveness will actually stop meaning exclusivity.

25. No, it made sense
and you're right.

Would have been nice had the thread been called "hetero couples: who sleeps on what side?" or something to that effect.

Or, if I can continue to stereotypically obnoxiousness of others, I might have posted the thread as "Committed couples: On which side does the "male" player sleep, and which side does the "female" player sleep?" I say that as I remember the olden days, way back when, as a teenager, I thought that all gay couples, whether lesbian or gay, had to make the decision as to who would fulfill the role of the "masculine" partner and who the "female" partner, as though all homosexual couples still felt the need to buy into our BS societally-determined gender roles. Sheesh.

Hard to believe my own stupidity. Thankfully, I've become more enlightened in age. :-)
