Um, no offense to Southerners here but...
Are you people a bunch of sissies? Ya can't handle some snow and ice? A friend lives in North Carolina and she's griping about the wintry weather. They have apparently shut down Atlanta today. C'mon up north here with us hardy folks, who still bitch about the weather, but at least don't shut down when its snowy and cold. Ah, I'm sorry. I guess maybe all the cold has warped my brain. Thats my story and I'm stickin' to it.

1. Yeah, well I don't wanta hear y'all whining...
the next time you have a couple of days up in the 90s next summer. Until you've had 2 straight months with every day over a hundred you aren't allowed to complain about it being hot. :eyes:

Edited on Mon Jan-26-04 05:30 PM by Kamika
It's more that we have no clue of what it is..

Also and this is true.. we CAN'T KEEP OUR FRIGGIN BALANCE ON ICE.

I have no clue how you guys do it but I can hardly stand up on it.

Oh yeah and I do love it when northerners come to Houston wearing jeans :D

5. I wore shorts out in the snow today (in NC)
And just for the record, you yankees cant take the heat whatsoever (in more ways than one lol). Nothing more fun than watching northern people endure 100 degree heat. Its fun to watch northerners eat some of our food, mainly the hot stuff. What you call 'hot and spicy' we call 'gerber baby food'.

Our Senator might just be your next President! :D

Re: wintry weather. You forget one thing. Where you yankees normally get snow, we get ICE. And nobody, I mean nobody does well with ice, northerners included. :P

7. Exactly. DRIVING is a problem!
So they shut Texas down because none of us can drive on the stuff.

And what they said about the heat! You don't hear us griping when it gets over 100. So tptptptptptptptpt.

9. To tell you the truth
If I had enough in my retirement fund, I'd probably be somewhere south of here now. I don't really like winter, just trying to inject some "humor" into a fairly bleak day.

I got a low threshold and a hair trigger.
;-)
Many years ago I was looking out my office window in Birmingham, AL, after we'd just gotten about one inch of snow, and saw 5 fender benders IN THE PARKING LOT!

In Illinois, I learned to drive in snow.
In New Hampshire, I learned that is impossible to drive on black ice.
It is also impossible to walk on black ice.

Of course, moving to Florida and having to endure 72 degrees

as well as they do.

I melt when it gets above 78, especially if it's at all humid.

16. And another thing: We Elect DEMOCRATS!
Edited on Mon Jan-26-04 06:13 PM by ih8thegop
Who are you electing? Rick Perry, Jeb, Duh-bya, Bob Riley, Sonny Perdue, Mike Huckabee, Mark Sanford. You even have a governor named Haley. HALEY!! What kind of name is that? Maybe you'd name your dog Haley, but a human? Much less a Governor?

You also have Trent Lott, Bill Frist, oh, and Jesse Alexander Helms and James Strom Thurmond.

:spank::spank::spank::spank::spank::spank::spank::spank::spank::spank:

Explain.

Northern politicians include Paul Wellstone (RIP), Jennifer Granholm, Jim Doyle, Rod Blagojevich (now there's a cool name), Tom Vilsack, Ed Rendell, the Kennedys, Pres. Howard Dean, Tom Harkin,

BTW: We also know don't take a month to determine who wins our electoral votes!

20. Actually, just a couple of Fridays ago....
More than 300 public schools closed in Massachusetts because of the extreme cold. The sub-zero temperatures caused buses not to start, and dangerous conditions for students waiting for buses and students walking to school.

22. Now just wait a minute...
I am an Native Buffalonian I lived there for my first 22 years. The storm system that came through this area of Virginia left about 3 inches of snow, then freezing rain and drizzle. There was a layer of Ice on everything this morning. It would of been dangerous for any area in the nation. This storm did NOT just leave a little bit of snow but it also left a thin layer of ice. Thus the worry in this area was well worth the worry.

23. "A little snow" isn't the problem...
You're right. A little snow is okay... Our area has only a few snow-plows, so they keep the main roads open, but a little snow is do-able. It doesn't come through often enough to buy a huge fleet of snowplows, but they do a fairly decent job when the snow comes through.

The freezing rain, however, isn't very easy to deal with. It washes off the sand and salt from the roadway, and the ice just builds up again. It pulls down trees and power lines, too.

It's not about being "wimps". It's about not wanting to have your car end up in a ditch because a half inch of solid ice (not packed snow-- solid clear ice like an ice cube) is on the roadway. Doesn't matter how good of a driver you are, where you're from, or how macho you think you are.

So, I sit at home and read DU. And deal with a frustrated cat, who wants the sunny warm weather back, so he can chase the cicadas.
