I have this yogurt parfait in the fridge...advice needed |
|
This is a serious post for once. For some reason, I have trouble detecting when food has gone bad, and I usually end up eating it and getting sick.
So I have this yogurt parfait in the fridge that was made fresh at my local grocery store. I think it has been in there for 3 days.
Fresh strawberries, blueberries, vanilla yogurt, nuts.
Should still be ok to eat after 3 days...right?
There is no expiration date on it...

1. if it's been in the fridge for 3 days |
|
i would surely think so
yogurt and the fruit should last longer than that in a fridge.
smell it
taste it
eat it if it smells and tastes good
JMO

3 days is about my max for storing stuff that I don't know an expiration date.
The yogurt and the nuts are probably OK, yogurt is another form of spoilt milk afterall, but it's the fruit I'd be iffy about. If that is OK, I'd say eat it.

7. I heard on the news that |
|
"leftovers" should not be stored for more the 4 days in a refrigerator. If you consider this a "leftover" then it would be OK. You don't know how many days it sat in the refrigerator at the grocery store before you bought it, though. You do know if it sat unrefrigerated at your house or was exposed to the air in your possession. Since strawberries, blueberries and yogurt are all acidic, the acids would tend to help retard bacterial growth and keep it preserved longer than a non-acidic dessert such as cake with whipped cream.

11. If the fruit tastes "bubbly" or fermented then it's bad. Otherwise I'm sure it's fine. |
|
Yogurt lasts a long time, as do nuts.
