1. Ah.
That Mark Lindsay. That guy had a good voice. :)

Actually, I think that "Kicks" was their best song.

6. A youtube video of "Kicks"
Unfortunately, they're lip-synching. There's not many true live performances of the Raiders extant.

2. "Dr. Fine" from "Raiders Collage"...
...in which Mark Lindsay informs you that he will "supplement your cure with a thing I learned I learned I learned in Asia..."

"Collage" was the American equivalent to "Sticky Fingers." The band took big risks and very few people bought a copy, but man oh man, it's G-O-O-D.

The CD was available until only a few months ago on Lindsay's Web Site. He did an exclusive license agreement with Columbia and released it on his own label.

He also does a live oldies show on Saturday nights that's streamed on the Web. Info on his Web Site:

14. He lived in semi-retirement Hawaii for many years...
..."clean" living, at that...and got the itch to be back in the spotlight again. He's back in Oregon and bought a restaurant that he'll be using to broadcast his show ("Mark Lindsay's Rock & Roll Cafe").

So yes, he's in great shape, especially when you compare him to this man (he's a year and a half older than Keef):

Mark Lindsay was born on March 9, 1942

Keith Richards was born on December 18, 1943

3. They jumped the shark when Fang left.
I read a bio of the group online recently, they were a very short lived band. BUT, when i was in 9th grade, they were absolutely the best. I was a HUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHH fan.

Until all that was left was Mark and Paul -- with Paul happy to have studio musicians play his parts.

The story around the late 60's and early 70's with Paul went something like this:

Paul: Just calling to see how my keyboard parts are coming along.

Studio engineer: They're coming along fine, Paul. We had the organ player do a few more takes to get things perfect.

Paul: That's great! Keep up the good work. I'll give a ring next week, around the same time.

9. The guitar solo on their 1963 version of...

"Louie, Louie is one of the most amazing garage sounds ever. I just don't know which of Paul's many guitarist did
that recording.

May have been one of these (Charlie Coe, Pierre Oulette, and Steve West) or who knows...a studio musician.
Anyway, I saw them play it live back in those days and it sounded just as grand.

16. One of my favorite 1960s bands, along with Tommy James and the Shondells, The Buckinghams, The
Boxtops and, of course, The Monkees. :)

My parents brought me The Raiders' "Spirit of '67" album for Christmas that year. Good memories!

They were so much better than The Monkees!

Have all their albums....somewhere.
