5. cool you now have carte blanche to goof off for the next 48 hours
get some rental flicks in, something you like to drink, something to eat, throw a mattress on the floor in front of the teevee and do some serious veg

you just need rest, my friend

once you're bored with "rest," you'll be good to go

2. how long has it been going on?
Edited on Thu Aug-23-07 07:55 PM by pitohui
i've found w. exhaustion/jet lag that taking to my bed for 24 to 48 hours results in a remarkable surge in my spirits

this is not the case for my friends w. clinical depression, resting up and laying around in bed drinking the wine and watching the Simpsons makes them feel WORSE if you can imagine it!!!

"ask a doctor" is the safe answer but honestly i'd check out how you respond to deep rest first, because doctors are a little bit harried and sometimes give oversimplified advice

take some down time and see how you feel, if downtime helps, cool, if it doesn't, hokay, might be an issue

4. If you can't "shake it" - it's probably depression.

and a

There're plenty of us on here who can probably give you feedback on specifics - either out in the open or through PM's.

There's also a Mental Health Group on DU.

6. not so
i know people who couldn't "shake it" who got mis DX'd with depression who turned out to have everything from colon cancer to heart disease

however i think in this case all we need is a little down time

americans need more time to just kick back and relax

15. now that I see
she says two days - ayuh.

And of course, there's chronic fatigue and etc - but depression is also grossly under-diagnosed for those who are.

Go figure.

8. Take a break
For a few days and see if it helps. It is exhaustion, you will probably feel at least somewhat better. If it is depression, you probably won't feel better.

9. Process of elimination?
In other words, get as much sleep as you can, first, to see if that makes a difference in how you are feeling emotionally.

If it doesn't, then maybe consider getting some therapy to explore whatever issues are keeping you from feeling your best.

 That's the best answer I got.

11. Try to get good, regular sleep,
at least 8 hours a night. For a definitive diagnosis a Dr. might want to do an MMPI. I've been treated for depression and am glad I went and did something for it. It got so that I couldn't sleep a full night's sleep any longer, going to bed for 3 or 4 hours, then waking up not being able to get back to sleep.
