Designing Women!
Edited on Fri Aug-24-07 08:53 AM by supernova
I have been enjoying reruns all week and had sort of forgotten how much fun that show is. Hearing Julia rip into one of her famous liberal rants does me good! :D

2. Ha.. I loved it!
Did you see down in the comments? One guy says he recited that speech to Dixie Carter a few years ago and got a hug! :D

9. That's so cool.
I just love all the Designing Women!

Dixie is seems like a nice lady. She was great this past season on "Desperate Housewives".

5. Designing Women and Murphy Brown were the last sitcoms I ever followed
I just haven't found the later ones to be particularly funny.

13. I loved Murphy Brown.
That was my favorite show even though I was in middle school when it was out. If there is any female TV character that I could see myself as , it would be Murphy Brown.

17. Do I ever miss Murphy Brown!
She is still needed. And we even further removed from her IRL than we were when she was in first run.

6. Designing Women and The Golden Girls
were required viewing in the upstairs bar at one of the local gay bars when they were first run. I miss those days.

7. It's a shame that the woman playing Julia was a RW'er
I've never seen the show but I guess she must have been a good actress if she convincingly plays a liberal -I did see Dixie Carter on Desperate Housewives and she was good then.

10. they used to let her sing to make up for the liberal rants
I saw Dixie Carter interviewed once. She said that everytime the writers let her character sing it was because they had made her do a left wing rant the show before. I think she was only half kidding.

16. One thing that show was really good at
Edited on Fri Aug-24-07 01:42 PM by supernova
was illustrating these sorts of cloddish statements and behaviours in a way that sent up the speaker without demoralizing the victim.
