Mystery Science Theater 3000: Joel or Mike |
|
A hard choice, because they each had some of the best and worst grade-Z movies in the series.
A personal favorite was "Outlaw Of Gor," which was hosted by Mike Nelson, because everything clicked...the movie, the jokes, the in-between bits. Same holds true for "War of the Colossal Beast," the sequel to "Amazing Colossal Man."
Who's your favorite host, and what's your favorite ridiculed flick?
Your favorite "bot," too, if you're so inclined. Mine's Crow.

I always thought he was funnier.
My favorite episode had to be "Time Chasers," simply because that terrible film was made in my hometown of Rutland, Vt.
I'm going with Tom Servo for "bot."
Man, I miss that show.

14. It's on my short list for the next DVD set... |

I've seen the non-MST3K version. Absolutely unwatchable. I also saw the first "Gor" movie, which...if you can believe it...is worse than the sequel.
Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? :-)

Not only was he sweeter and funnier, he knew when to jump a sinking ship. If it doesn't have "TV's Frank", it ain't MST3K.

it has to be Joel. What a great show that was! Every guy I have ever gone out with hated it, but I loved it.

My favorite episode, however, was from the second season (1990-91), when Joel was still the host.
The film was "Ring of Terror," which featured actors who looked to be well past 40 playing 22-year-old medical students. Suffice it to say, Joel, Crow and Tom Servo got excellent mileage out of that little inconsistency, including a riotous sketch advertising both the curricula and campus life at "the Old School."

I saw more of Mike, though.
Man what a great show. If you're from Minnesota (and the Twin Cities, specifically) there's some great inside humor. A lot of good Wisconsin jokes, too. (Making fun of the Cheeseheads of course)
