Defend the indefensible in this thread:
Myself, I think over time, depleted uranium rounds could be harvested by whatever populace survives the conflict -- and turned in into a widely-available alternative energy source.

8. The Vick defenders alll say the same thing
"There are worse crimes than dog fighting. It's not like he was torturing and killing human beings."

Yes, there are worse crimes. Which is why he's looking at 12-18 months instead of 12-18 years or life.

"Dog fighting is no different than bullfighting."

Both activities are banned in this country. I find both cruel. If Vick wanted to attend a bullfight in Spain or Mexico, I would have no problem. The NFL has problems with gambling in general but those are league rules that Vick accepted as a member of the NFLPA via the collective bargaining process.

"Some parts of the world eat dog."

If Vick wants to travel to South Korea and order up a bowl of Bosintang, I would not have a problem and neither could our criminal justice system. I would pass, personally in favor of some hot and spicy Kimchi jjigae.

"Dog fighting is no different than hunting or fishing."

Well, yes it is actually. One is legal and one is illegal. Hunting & fishing are regulated and people get busted for poaching all the time. The pro Vick crowd is free to work towards legalizing dog fighting and good luck with that.

And I dare them to prove otherwise. Triple dog dare.

What's really funny, is that I've seen them try. One could NOT look more stupid.

11. A.I.D.S. research is a complete waste of money.
Spending millions of dollars trying to cure what is a completely preventable disease brought on by a decadent lifestyle is not only wasteful but is sinful and an affront to the great mammoth Jesus. That money can be much better spent developing a chemical weapon to make the intestines of Muslims and Africans turn into into pus.

26. Global thermonuclear war is just what humanity needs.
It's obvious civilization has become stagnant and overconcerned with creature comforts. We need something to reboot evolution, encourage us to focus on the important things and stop sweating the small stuff. What's more important than basic survival and managing the challenges of rampant genetic mutation? Not to mention the fact that accelerated genetic mutation will help us adapt to the new future so much more quickly.

Think of it as a variant on the practice of burning forests to promote new growth.

38. This a lobbed throw for me.
This, to me, is easily defensible.
Wipe out most of humanity and have us completely restart is not an unpleasant thought. Let's see here, we would reset the oil dependence (because we wouldn't really have a consistent way to import, or refine it.)
We would reset the political spectrum. Even if all of the current leaders survived, the entire global landscape would be changed. They would be FORCED to renegotiate their philosophies.
We would have to deal with the gun rights, though. Let's face it, if you lived after the Ultimate Holocaust, you, too, would pick up a gun. It would be paramount to yours, and your family's, survival.
The "Forth Branch" would have to re-invent its self. Starting with the revival of the newspaper. Real news would force its way back into the main stream. Well, at that point it would be the only stream.
It would completely vaporize most of the nuclear waste that we currently have.
It would, as a by-product, vaporize most of the regular waste that we have.
It would force everyone to "Do more with less." The luxury wasters would die within weeks, if they survived.
Hummers would have almost no use except for very short term, high torque, applications... Until they broke down on their second use, in which the gas would be siphoned into 20 hybrids that survived.
As a result of these things occuring, and the nuclear winter that would follow, Global Warming would no longer be an issue as the next Ice Age set in. Not to mention, no cars running, no coal plants running, no chemical manufacturers running, no oil refining, no planes flying. I think that would set the global carbon footprint to almost 0, with the exception of cooking fires.
I am sorry, but if my family had to die, along with more than 3/4 of the world's population, to get to this point, since I would have nothing to do with starting it, I can accept that.
So, this is an easily defensable position. Maybe the IN-defensable position is why we SHOULDN'T nuke the planet.

Roosters too. They looooove fighting! I think that preventing these noble animals from ripping each other to shreds against their will is cruel, and certainly down-grades their quality of life.

How would YOU like it if the government was preventing you from doing something that you truly love? Not very much, I'd wager.
