It's the only Joan Rivers show I can stomach. :D

1. Catty, huh?
I'm not watching it now, but from what I saw of the pre-show parade last night, Renee Zellweger should win hands down for most unflattering dress. Too short! Too tight! Too low cut! What was the girl thinking? It made her look like a tube of toothpaste that was about to start oozing at the ends.

(Catty enough for you?)

3. but Joan and Melissa sang praises for her
did you see how Bill Murray is all gray now?

Quite becoming, BTW.

J.Lo normally looks so well put together, but this time she was off the mark.

30. Bill Murray aging rather gracefully, IMO.
All that gray works well on him.

I didn't see the end of Fashion Police last night, so I missed J. Lo.

I really didn't like Charlize Theron's ruffles; I thought the way they sat on her hips were unflattering.

31. I heard somewhere
that he and Sophia Coppola were an "item.

Speaking of Sophia, she made her acting debut as a very small infant.

She was the baby in the famous baptizing scene in the first Godfather movie.

5. Well, Sofia Coppola deserved 2 more awards

First, she deserves a Good Sense and Taste Award for wearing flat shoes and saying "no" to the popular practice of female foot torture.

Second, she deserves a generous damages award for whatever evildoer is responsible for her hair!

To begin with, the color is absurd. There are some brunettes in this world who think that light skin means they are somehow entitled to and will look terrific with colored hair. They are so wrong.

And the style was perfect for a trip to the supermarket on a rainy day, but hardly suitable for an awards show.

8. Ellen Burstyn looked terrific. Johnny Depp did not

Everybody knows he was in the pirate movie, I think he would have been recognized without the hat, and without the gum.

Ellen Burstyn chose the right colors and the right hair, and looked like an Ode to some ancient Sun god, which is a laudable fashion goal.

16. Apparently Holly's surgeon accidentally nipped out a soupcon

of frontal lobe during her recent renovation procedure.

Holly looked badly in need of a sandwich. Maybe that's why someone gave her that plump little roadkill, and there she was with a tiny bag and no grill, what could she do but hang it around her neck?

11. I screamed at Kate Blanchett to take off that dress and give it to

poor lovelorn JLo who needs to sit in the sun for a while if she wants that color to show up under TV lights.

Kate Blanchett had no business in that dress. There may be blondes who can wear red, but not that red.

25. Nicole Kidman looked like Bride of Chuckie

We won't even talk about the cheesy stretch hairband, that dress belongs on a brunette woman about a foot shorter and thirty pounds heavier.

And she should have taken off half of that makeup and given it to that poor little transparent wisp Hope something from American Splendor.

27. Heh Heh - Pretty typical for JD
He's sorta in a pinstripe/zoot suit phase lately. He's even worn 2-tone wingtips. I like the suit, not the hat. But he's a very shy person and he admits to trying to hide behind things like his hair, glasses, hats etc...

Van is wearing Chanel if anybody cares. I like her dress allright, but that bedjacket needs to go.

I liked Uma's lavender dress the best. Charlize's yellow one 2nd.

Edited on Mon Jan-26-04 10:02 PM by Hell Hath No Fury
at how tacky Nicole Kidman looked. The dress was wrong, wrong, wrong and the hair was Baby Jane-ish. She usually looks impeccable.

Some of my favorites were Cate Blanchette - that color and cut was exquisite, Uma Thurman - that hot lavender with her coloring, delish!, Christina Ricci - the cut of that vintage Madame Gre was divine for her, and Mary-Louise Parker - that dress showed off her assets to their best!

I think Nicole and Joely Richardson tie for worst dressed.

I should add, the worst make-up was on Jennifer Lopez. They went W-A-Y overboard with the skin shimmer. Her face was a mess once she got under the lights - her nose and checks were practically white they were reflecting so much. Now, it's nice when a woman "glows", but blinding glare is NOT good.

26. If Nicole is going to wear gowns like that,
someone needs to give her a roll of double-stick tape. She was tugging at the bodice all night, trying to keep what little she's got from hopping on out. That's tacky.

I did think Meryl Streep's remark about realizing her dress was translucent ("I'm standing with them together now") was funny. Her dress was a little bit 6-year-old tea-partyish, though. The skirt was a bit too poofy. She did look lovely overall, though.

Sofia Coppola needs to fire the stylist who put her in that dress. It didn't fit, the style was horribly unflattering, and it was too casual for the occasion. I don't mind that she wore flats, but there are more attractive shoes without heels.

55. Totally agree about SJP
I don't get the fussiness of most of her outfits. She wears a lot of little-girl stuff that is fast becoming inappropriate for a woman her age.

Conventional wisdom calls her a trend-setter. I call her a fashion victim.

But then, I wear knit pants with elastic waistbands, sweaters, jackets, and clogs, so what do I know? At least I'm comfortable.
