Both rivers here are over their banks,
half my town has no power.

Oh, and I'm home and feeling better.

How are things with you?

2. Sorry to hear
Still, look on the bright side. You could feel like crap, have a basement full of water, and no power with which to post on DU about how you feel like crap.

Don't you feel better now? :hi:

3. Oh, wow, that sounds horrible.
Where are you?

Things are hot and muggy here in Western NY. T-Storms in the forecast, but we have been lucky here -- all the heavy storms have stayed to our west.

Sorry about your town.

4. Illinois
I live three blocks from where the Fox and Illinois Rivers meet. I'm only a block from the Fox, but there's a pretty steep hill in that block. Still, we're keeping an eye on it. The river is to the foot of that hill, and creeping up. People assure me that my house has never been flooded--and it was built in 1888.

But it's a mess for the town. Two schools are flooded, and several businesses. In twon, not many people live right along the river. A few years ago, the city condemned and bought a bunch of homes on the floodplain and built a park and riverwalk, both of which are flooeded now. Most homes on the Illinois are on bluffs above the river, so they're safe. But the river is so high that barges can't get under bridges they usually have no problem with at all. So, barge traffic is halted for now.

Lots of farmland is flooded. And crops were damaged by high winds on Thursday. It's a shame, because the corn and beans were beautiful until a few days ago--it looked like a bumper crop of both. Now, it's hard to say how much will be salvaged.

No more rain predicted until Wednesday, so the waters should start to recede soon.

15. Fox River

...did they say when it's going to peak by you? It's so flooded in Wisconsin and here that The Chain is closed to boating. It's flowed over some of the lower seawalls here, but it's worse downstream.

Here's hoping that Wisconsin & Illinois stay dry for a bit :toast:

17. Crest some time tomorrow, but not back in the channel until
Tuesday or Wednesday. Which is a bit worrisome, because they're predicting more storms for Wednesday. I always forget that the Fox starts out in Wisconsin. It ends here.

And I'll join you in that toast....to a dryer Midwest :toast:

6. Yeah, the media don't seem to know how bad it is down here.
But all that water up there is still heading downstream.

8. I am sorry about the flooding in your area
My dad and stepmother experienced flooding where they live in Ohio, the area that I grew up in. Luckily, thye only had flooding in their basement, but school was cancelled and they had to drive through water to get to work. Some nearby towns were especially hit hard.

12. First of all, hi from a fellow Midwesterner
I know damn well you must be in either Iowa or Illinois because a lot of our small rivers are flooding. It isn't a story in the national media because we are not east coast, but I digress.
How are things with me? Well, I'm going to be 50 in a couple of months, I'm fat, I'm bald, I had a crappy day at work today, but we finally had a fine weather day and the Cubs are still in first place. So overall, things are ok. Except for the alleged leadership of our country. But that's another real long story for another time.

16. I'm going to be 50 in a year and a month
I hate to think about it, but there you are.

And yeah, I'm in Illinois. Big storms in Chicago!! Yeah, news people, they came through here first. But this would be a little far for you to drive, wouldn't it :eyes:

Our weather was great today, and supposed to be tomorrow, too. No rain predicted until Wednesday :woohoo:
And Cubs in first place.

So, over all, things could be a lot worse. Thanks for sharing :hi:
