as in "I've never been to Esther's Follies"? Oh, just go. Get your tickets early, and get in line early. And sit up front and on the aisle.

4. It changes, of course, |
|
and I haven't been yet this season. It's sketch comedy, with plenty of allusions to current events. Any sacred cow may be barbequed.
When are you going?

31. It's hilarious. I haven't been in years though |
|
During the 80s they had an Ann Richards skit, "Annie Get Your Goat," costarring folks like Bob Bullock. In her holster she had cans of hairspray instead of six-shooters.
Also, don't know if they're still doing Patsy Cline "She's Got You," a salvation army's worth of items all jammed into the front of a very large dress.
And RIP Chi-Chi LaBomba! (We love ya Margaret!)

About the sit up front or on the aisle part, anyway. You can call ahead of time and get your tickets held for you until 30 minutes before the show. Still good to get there early and get good seats.
Ester's is like a vaudeville/SNL with magic tricks and skits. They are very very fast paced so if you don't like one bit another bit follows very quickly. Knowing Austin or Texas politics helps.
Ester's is on 6th street so parking will be a challenge. Plan ahead on that score. Also, 6th street is part of the show since the back wall of the show is a huge window fronting 6th street.

6. the window show is indeed |
|
great! If you don't care for a skit being performed, just watch the people outside. Sometimes part of a skit may be done through the window, too, which is always hilarious, even when you expect it may happen.
And I'm not mean. I just like to encourage audience participation!

That would kill me. I am not a morning person. Coffee is the only thing that helped me fake early classes and early career, 8:00 am jobs.
No wonder he's got those 24,700 posts. He's got nothing to do between 7:00 and 8:00 but cruise DU. Just kidding GOPisEvil, for all I know you may be assembling nuclear weapons for homeland security at 7:00 in the morning. Gotta keep sharp - terra, terra, terra.

30. Ester's Follies kicks ass |
|
For any of you who live in Austin and haven't dragged your sorry butts to see Shannon Sedwick and the Follies troupe at least once, you are now officially excommunicated, branded and declared non-weird in Austin. You guys have been missing out big time. Not only is this troupe, top rate funny, Shannon Sedwick is a champion liberal. She's had so many fundraisers for Democrats that she could hold their offices. She is a big sweetheart.
I'm not kidding about the top rate performances either. I went to see a Second City show in Chicago at Christmas, and Esther's Follies could hold their own against that troupe easy. The show at Second City was great, but consider yourself blessed to have the local comedy talent we have in the Follies.
And if you have never seen even one of Greater Tuna shows, I want to know what the hell you think Keep Austin Weird means? You gotta support your local crackpots, or maybe that's support your local crack pipes this week. Who knows, whatever. It's Austin.
We should all go to one of these shows as a group.
