I think I'm officially too old to ride roller coasters |
|
We spent the day at Great America in Gurnee yesterday and rode all of the coasters (except the "baby" ones and Iron Wolf, which is a horrible head banger). We even did Batman and Superman (my favorite) twice.
But, boy, I'm paying for it today. I feel like I was beat up or in a minor car crash.
Anyone else stop riding coasters because their body couldn't take it anymore? We went last year, but I don't recall being this sore the next day. Maybe we just overdid it.

1. I haven't rode a roller coasters in years. |
|
It might depend on the coaster, and where you ride.
I made the mistake of riding the end car on the big coaster here in Houston at Astro World, never again.

I've always been too old to ride rollercoasters!
Even as a teenager, they made me very dizzy and ill...
My inner ear just wasn't happy at all...
The safest ride for me these days is the good old-fashioned merry-go-round!

I puked. That was my body's way of telling me to act my age.

Only 44. You must be in great shape.
Wasn't Superman cool? We did it during the day and at night. I felt that one was the least jarring on my body. The American Eagle is getting a little rickety and Deja Vu scared the crap out of me. What did you like best, least?

I liked all the roller coasters - they are such a rush!
I exercise an hour every day because I am chronic eater....the only negative effects from Gurnee came from eating all that delicious crap all day :D

Maybe you two could go together next year.
We cheaped out and just brought food with us and made a trip to the parking lot. I just can't bring myself to pay those outrageous prices. Plus, I'm really not supposed to eat all that crap.

6. Age doesn't come into play, I've known several octogenarians who were avid coaster riders |
|
Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 06:57 AM by TommyO
More likely it was a combination of the weather, walking around all day, not enough liquids (given Six Flag's price gouging for food and beverages), and just not being used to it.
My brother and I went to a Wildwood, NJ a few weeks ago and did the waterparks there, we were wiped out also.
edited to add: and yes, Iron Wolf is definitely a head-banger, I rode it once just to say I did it.

and our heads were so rattled afterward and ears sore and red that we were not going to repeat that one. The lines were really short on that one, so people must know. I wonder why they just don't take it out of service and build a replacement.

7. I still ride some, but try not to do too many in the same day |
|
Because I had the exact same thing happen to me a couple of years ago. I think that might have been the first time I really started to feel old.

I get so scared on that initial ride up (Acrophobic as I am), that the rest of the ride is a relief. You do use muscles to compensate your being tossed around that you probably don't use very often......

I used to love roller coasters but the last time I felt so achy the next day I decided that I am now officially too old :( Sucks doesn't it? You live up near the WI IL border? You should join us for our next Milwaukee DU meetup! Fabulous bunch of people. Better than a roller coaster and no pain!

But one thing my friend and I found out. We can not go bouncing through fields like we used to. Hard on the kidneys.

Two days worth of riding. It was just after they opened Millenium Force. That one is insane.
Well worth it if you can make the trip.
