8. Ok, to be fare I didn't listen to it the first time. |
|
The song started, and I got a flash of pre-school hell, and turned it off.
I wint back and listen to it all.
Yes indeed it says everything about our society.
Where I come from we avoid little ticky tacky fucking boxes at all cost.

I remember this song from, I believe, the 60's!
Yeah, I'm old, I know...
I think it was a reaction to the housing developments that were made out of stucco.....
The sameness and all that...
I haven't heard this one in years!

It was written by Malvina Reynolds, a senior-citizen self-proclaimed Jewish Communist ex-college professor, who also penned What Have They Done To The Rain? and Turn Around, among many others.
I believe she died in the late '70s. She was an active politico and folk performer to the end, writing pro-choice and other leftist anthems during the days of disco.

Actually I have the Weeds soundtrack from last season. The Little Boxes version is by Elvis Costello I believe. The first season had a new singer doing it for each episode. Not sure if they are doing it this year.
