What fall music releases are you interested in?
Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 02:44 PM by mvd
By fall, I mean from September until the end of the year. Here are some of mine:

The Donnas - Bitchin' (sounds like their best yet - I loved their other CDs, but this might be their first masterpiece)

Vanessa Carlton - Heroes & Thieves (a poppier Tori, I have always enjoyed her work. New single sounds very promising.)

Steve Earle - Washington Square Serenade

Iron & Wine - The Shepherd's Dog

Bree Sharp - Robots In Love (no date set, but should be available by the end of the year)

John Fogerty - Revival

Lucy Walsh - Lost in the Lights (some of her music is a bit Britney-like, but she's like a more artistic Britney with a fresh pop sound. I also think the Cyndi Lauper comparisons are legitimate. Want to buy this one, and other pop fans should check it out.)

Dido - to be determined title

new Bruce Springsteen

Trisha Yearwood - Heaven, Heartache, and the Power of Love

Melissa Etheridge - The Awakening

Debbie Harry - Necessary Evil

Annie Lennox - Songs of Mass Destruction

Also the one that was just released - Collective Soul's Afterwords.

And more...

1. Don't know...which list are you looking at?
I've forgotten the best websites for looking at upcoming album releases.

(And forgive my saying so, but I have trouble believing an album called "Bitchin'" could be a masterpiece. :) Then again, I have a New Monkees album in my collection, so what do I know?)

It's entitled "Magic," and it's due out in early October.

Just by looking at the Metacritic list, I really think I should try out Angie Mattson. Soulful sound there, and nice looks.

9. A couple more of note
KT Tunstall - Drastic Fantastic (first single is a bit of a flat re-creation of some of her other songs, but I'll give this CD a listen. I liked Eye To The Telescope.)

Siouxsie - Mantaray (will likely wait for U.S. release, if there is one)

As far as Angie Mattson goes, when I re-evalauate my crush list, I think she'll go on. Reading about her, she sounds like a free spirit - which I like. And her music sounds purchase-worthy.

10. Jon Spencer Blues Explosion has some collection coming out.
Not sure if it is their collected "jukebox singles" series, of which I own most, or a more generalized anthology, but it's got a cover that's a parody of those from the Crypt Records "Back from the Grave" series.

which is said to have started Jon off in the first place with Pussy Galore.

12. Oh, I didn't know about that Radiohead
Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 11:09 PM by mvd
Thanks!

There are a number of artists I find overrated by critics (M.I.A., Arcade Fire, and Bright Eyes among them,) along with even more who are underrated, but Radiohead deserves their praise. M.I.A.'s Arular was pretty good, but I find Kala nearly unlistenable.

I can't get to all, but a couple more of interest:

PJ Harvey - White Chalk (not sure I'd call myself a SUPER-fan, but I do think Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea is fantastic, with Uh Huh Her also being very good. I'll buy this if it is similar quality)

Carrie Underwood - Carnival Ride (Some Hearts is a solid CD, and "So Small" is a pretty first single from the new CD. Hopefully, Carrie will improve.)

21. Amazon and CD Baby
Use CD Baby, she gets more of a cut. They just got back from a USO tour at GITMO. Very interesting stories. I can't wait to talk to her about it.

She now in full bust her ass mode right now to finish the art work for the CD and stuff.

CD release party is set for Sept. 18th.

20. Yeah, they are good
It doesn't actually meet the qualifications of this list, but...

The Black Keys are teaming up with Danger Mouse and Ike Turner for a cd to come out early next year.

I fully expect this to be the commercial breakthrough they so richly deserve. Hopefully they maintain what makes them great on it with these outsiders also on the record (they have always produced their own cds).
