13. Actually they are
It is boxier, but that is the adapted Dodge body on the Jeep Liberty frame.

4. We got a great deal.

And a year's free maintenance. We just have to go back and sign the papers tomorrow night.

As to the why....Because it probably doesn't have the most wonderful gas mileage at times...

5. HORRIBLE mpg.

I researched them when I was looking to buy a new car. The Liberty was one I considered until I researched the mpg. People report they are getting around 15mpg in real world driving. That's HORRIBLE.

then buy it and sign those papers away. I just purchase my first new car, in over 12 years a few weeks ago. While my mileage could be better, I don't work outside of the home and have 3 kids, 5 dogs and 6 cats. Not to mention only owning one vehicle between me and the hubby.
Don't tell any of the other DU'ers...but heres the stats below;

We got grand touring because of it's larger wheels.

Lets just keep this between you and me.

8. Not from me
I have a Jeep Wrangler, which DH swears only gets 17 mpg. I think it's a bit more, but my judgment may be clouded by the fact that I love it and it's paid for (it's 7 years old) and...tough titty, I'll have to make up for my environmental shortcomings by putting more stuff in the recycling bin than your average bear. Sometimes you just gotta go with the car you needs ta have... Enjoy. :hi:

9. You wont be the only low mpg vehicle owner here on DU!
I have an 01 Dodge Dakota 4x4 crew cab with the 4.7 v8. Its my work vehicle though, and I do use it to haul my dirtbike around to other places and tracks, I average around 16 when I'm doing my pool/spa cleaning route. My 01 Trans Am though being a fast and powerful car with a 325hp 5.7 v8 gets WAY WAY better gas milage, averaging around 23mpg and it has gotten 31mpg on a nonstop interstate trip!

10. We tested one about a year ago, didn't like it
Too rough and jiggly for our liking. We wound up with a pretty blue Chevy Equinox, and love it.

11. That depends..
Was it a hybrid made out of recyled organic tofu cans, carpted and uphostered with recycled plastic bags, and do you only use it when you go shopping at Trader Joe's, choosing to walk or ride a bike for all other trips you go on?

Cuz, if not, hope you have some Nomex undies!

15. Ford Escape Hybrid is a very nice vehicle around the same size
as the Liberty, and gets gas mileage well into the 30s, but I'm guessing you're getting an excellent year-end deal with the Liberty. If you put tons of miles on the car each year, you could save $ in the long run with the Escape, but you'd probably have to do the calculations for that...

16. Not by me. I thank you for supporting my local economy.
I live in the Toledo area (where the Liberty is built).
