Sigh. I didn't get the job I wanted.
:(

The interview went so well too...at least I thought.

The current job I have is ok, but it's more chemistry than genetics. The job I applied to was basically a fantastic match for me...

And to top it off the Yankees are getting slammed in spectacular ways tonight.

Waaa.

1. I'm sorry about the job thing
But, I'm happy for my Tigers....

I got turned down once by what I thought was the perfect job for me but, in retrospect, I'm glad I didn't get it. I took the job I have now mostly to get out of my old job situation and it's the best move I ever made; 16 year anniversary in November.

I hope things get better for you.

2. Sorry to hear that
I always hated that myself when I thought the interview went good but nothing happened. Glad to hear you at least have a science job now. At least your current job is giving you experience..
And one question..how does one who went to school at Boston College end up being a Yankee fan?

3. lol
I'm originally from New Jersey :D

I'm probably going to be taking my engagement ring off for future interviews from now on. One of my current co-workers told me that it might be what's caused *her* (and she has a PhD in molecular bio!) to be passed up for some jobs.

I feel like I've hit a wall again. My current job only lasts til mid December and because the company is moving everything to Mexico :eyes:

4. Mexico?
Whoah. When the companies around here move its to other states like NJ, PA, Delaware, CA or even over to Europe (Great Britian). First time I heard about a sci place going south of the border....:wtf:

9. That totally sux
I feel your pain even though you and I don't know each other enough to be pals or anything. My whole life I got every job I applied for that I really wanted, except one. It was pretty crushing when I didn't get it that one (although I knew I blew it -- over eager -- in the last of 4 interviews). My response was to start my own company. That was 9 yrs ago and I am totally kicking ass. In essence, not getting that job was the very best thing that ever happened to me.

Moral of the story is you never know what the future will bring. I give you my unknown shoulder to cry on, but also a lot of optimism for what the future might bring you, or more importantly, what you might bring to the future.

Hugs! :)

10. last of four interviews?
Holy crap--how many interview rounds WERE there? :o

thanks for your kind words. I'm just bitching...I'm fresh outta college and I guess I'm over eager to be kicking ass. I'm grateful for what I have, but I'm driven to kick ass.

11. 4 -- I blew it on the last one
Made it all the harder, of course. I was like "please hire me, I'm perfect for this job" -- and of course I was, but saying it was obviously kind of a turn off. Duh. Never before, never again. If I'm that convinced I'm perfect I should start my own company, and I did. Never appear over eager.

13. Healthcare
But my mistake probably applies to every field. They were actually looking for a different degree than the one I had, but I had the feature set they wanted, so they interviewed me. I was apparently (so they said) so impressive at every interview, so they kept on interviewing me. I blew it when I tried to convince them I was the one for the job even though I didn't I have the degree they spec'ed out. In essence I appeared desperate in trying to convince them, even though I wasn't desperate at all. If I had it to do over, I would have stuck to discussing my verifiable credentials, and not tried to do so much convincing. I'm sure the net result made it look like I was over compensating for some weakness. In reality, I was just overeager for the job because it was a place I could make difference and make an impact.

By the way, when I blew it I was one of two remaining applicants out of almost 90 that were in the running. You never would have convinced me of this in th past, but it's much worse to lose out when it's between you and ONE other person than it is to not get called when 100 people apply.

If you got the call and got an interview that says a lot. Moral of the story if you're asking -- don't sell your self short, don't beat yourself if decent people don't automatically understand your worth. And don't appear desperate. You're really not if you think about it. It's all going to work out (if we all vote Dem) LOL!

Best of luck.
