"Diaper Free" What say you parents?
SUTTON, Mass. - Thirteen-month-old Dominic Klatt stopped banging the furniture in the verandah, looked at his mother and clasped his right hand around his left wrist to signal that he needed to go to the bathroom.

His mother took the diaper-less tot to a tree in the yard, held him in a squatting position and made a gentle hissing sound — prompting the infant to relieve himself on cue before he rushed back to play.

Dominic is a product of a growing “diaper-free” movement founded on the belief that babies are born with an instinctive ability to signal when they have to answer nature’s call. Parents who practice the so-called “elimination communication” learn to read their children’s body language to help them recognize the need, and they mimic the sounds that a child associates with the bathroom.

1. If I had a tile floor with drains in the center and spigots...in every room
to wash down the floor...

otherwise...I recommend cloth diapers...unlike the disposable..they are miserable, wet and icky when soiled..so kids will toilet train faster a result..

4. This is pretty common in parts of asia. In China I saw mothers holding children over
gutters and sewers as they relieved themselves. Even saw a woman holding a kid out a car window while it took a poo.

No public health risk there, right? :eyes: Just because they do something in Asia (especially China) does not automatically make it a good idea. Quite the opposite in fact, in most cases.

Jesus.

12. it says in public sinks, YES, where you wash your hands and face and brush your teeth
Edited on Tue Aug-28-07 12:28 PM by pitohui
what they do on their own property is fine, doing this in public should be cause for arrest and fines, with 24 hours jail time on a repeat offense

asia is known for its high cholera and tyhoid rates, as another poster said, defecating in public places is not a "tradition" that we need to emulate

if everybody jumped off a bridge, would you jump too? apparently for these moms, the answer is yes!

it is women's restrooms who will get the sinks full of crap if we don't put down this "fad" hard

10. It's the PARENTS who are being trained, not the kids.
And, letting your baby go in a public sink is disgusting.

on this fad. How ridiculous and unhygenic.

It's fine for a little while, and I mean an hour or too, and if you're out in the country like Kali says. But I wouldn't want to share close quarters with someone who did this as a rule. And I don't expect a public sink to have been peed in, or worse. (Tho" I'm sure people do it because 1) they're drunk, 2) High as a kite, 3) really really sick. However, it isn't something that I want to condone.
