5. Batshit wasn't an option so I had to pick other
Sadly, part of it is dementia and part a result of a brain injury. My grandmother is totally batshit, totally. So was her mom. I eat ginkgo like it was M&M's and pray that they find a way to fix that before I'm fully around the bend myself.

8. Mad as a Hatter
My ex used to refer to my family gatherings as "the Mad Tea Party". Unfortunately, that was a fairly apt description.

His own family wasn't much better, though.

9. Maybe not crazy...
...but pathologically narcissistic? Quite possibly. Emotionally and verbally abusive? Oh, yes. There are good reasons why she's never met one of her grandsons.

16. You are not alone...
Curiously enough, as the most ignored of the three siblings by our mother, I am by far the best-adjusted and socially normal. My mother tried to schedule our WEDDING around my 10-year-younger sister's summer club soccer league games. I digress.

My wife is on a mom's interest board. Someone posted about how their difficult in-law went batshit after the first child was born, and like 30 people followed up with similar stories.

So if you don't have kids yet, take cover when you do.

11. My mom is actually remarkably sane.
As normal and average as white bread. Obviously, I've failed her as a son. If she's not crazy by now, I did something wrong.

Let's put it this way - I've never seen anyone clean the whole house before the cleaning lady comes.

Edited on Wed Aug-29-07 04:41 PM by QMPMom
time. Had nearly 40 electro-shock treatments and needed about 1000 more. Was as abusive as hell and a miserable bitch of a woman. She hated me and I hated her. If she were alive there is no way I would let her even know I had children, let alone meet them. I was pissed off when I found out Dad took my son to her grave a few years ago. I refuse to go.

Step-Mother: An absolute Angel. A real, living, breathing Angel. Though she does manage to piss me off about once every 5 to 10 years. She probably could use a little grief counselling, but really pretty mentally healthy.

27. My mom died of cancer. Before she died she cursed my dad saying he wouldn't last a year
after she went. He died almost a year to the day she did.

Before she died, she visited radio stations in Boston and got herself on the air with dj's talking bullshit. She was nuts.
