4. No shit- imagine if "Tattoo You" had been their swan song.
Great comeback album, a monster tour, then -pfft-... It woulda been the perfect exit. They'd be as fondly remembered as irreducible totems of the 70's as the Beatles were of the 60's. Tragically, they decided to soldier on and in the process piss all over their own legacy as if it were the wall of a gas station. Pity...

5. Yours is a succinct assessment...
that would have been perfect.
In a perverse way, I sort of enjoy seeing them piss on their legacy (it is indicative of Jagger's career long ambivalence about his own work), but as someone who appreciates the greatness of their best work, I am saddened and disappointed by the last 30 years.

It's also sad and ironic that Keith has become what Dean Martin was when I was a kid. He really has. Just an easy punchline available to any hack comic.
