"Wild Horses"- Flying Burrito Brothers
Keef and Mick always have said (to their credit) that The Flying Burrito Brothers version of "Wild Horses" was better than their original; they were right.

I miss you, Gram:

1. beautiful stuff ...
I think the Flying Burrito Brothers version was actually released before the Stones version was, even though it's a Jagger/Richards composition ... I have always liked the Stones version, but I agree with you that this version is better. What a great talent Gram Parsons was--every verse is better than the last.

Thanks for posting this! :hi:

2. You're right
It's one of the last songs finished while Gram was in the band; you can tell how much he loved the song...

5. I LOVE Flying Burrito Brothers
and have several CD's. Their version of 'Wild Horses' is most awesome.

6. I was just listening to the Burritos version of that song
Edited on Wed Aug-29-07 02:55 PM by no name no slogan
I play a cover of it in my acoustic solo sets. He's on my shortlist of my musical idols who died far too young:

Adrian Borland, Nick Drake, Elliott Smith, Gram Parsons and Tim Buckley

The Burritos also do a damn fine version of "To Love Somebody" by The Bee Gees too.

And also, RIP Sneaky Pete Kleinow (Burritos pedal steel player). He passed a few months back.

7. Holy Crap, you know who The Sound are?
One of the great bands from the early 80's; "From The Lion's Mouth" is a Lost Masterpiece...

I didn't know about Sneaky Pete passing on; Oh man...

9. YOU know who the Sound are too?!?!?!?!
SHEEEEEEYIT!!!! That's freaking amazing! In addition to the Renascent re-issues, they have at least one Sound album available on eMusic (www.emusic.com). Not to mention a crapload of YouTube vids too.

Yeah, bummer about Sneaky too. I just found out about a month ago.

And if you haven't seen it yet, be sure to check out "Fallen Angel", the German TV documentary about Gram. It's very cool, very moving stuff.

10. I loved them
I loved the stuff they did w/ Kevin Hewick, too; it's funny, but I was just playing "Monument" on my guitar earlier today and thinking about playing it on my show tonight, too...

I can't believe I found another fan!:toast:

8. I love RnR that references earlier RnR. 'Wild horses couldn't
drag me away' was a line from 'Hello Mary Lou' by Gene Pitney I believe.

FBBs rule- my fave is their cover of 'Six Days on the Road.'
