with flying colors. :-)

The only loose end needing to be tied up is whether to bestow upon me the label "Asperger's" or "high-functioning autism". Some of the best minds in the field have tried to answer this, and failed. You see, the way clinicians tell the difference is by looking at IQ subtest scores. If your verbal IQ is higher than the performance IQ (the block shapes, etc.), it's Asperger's, while if the reverse is true, it's autism.

Then they ran across me. Both of my subtest scores were off scale. Yes, at the high end, smarty-pants. :P

Welcome to the club! :hi: Did you know we have our own exclusive virtual acreage right here at DU?

Oh yes, I once had lunch with Borat's cousin Simon Baron-Cohen, who was visiting Yale where I was working with the team that got Asperger's added to the U.S. clinical lexicon.

and you have to arrange them to match a design on the test sheet.

Interesting, since I usually don't consider myself particularly empathetic or well-connected to humans in general. But damn, do I know facial expressions/eyes.

I'm not sure what that means though. I thought the quality of the photos was terrible. ETA that I think you need an entire face to catch someone's mood.

Edited on Wed Aug-29-07 04:43 PM by GoddessOfGuinness
I can't help thinking that few people can read others' emotions by simply looking at their eyes in one given moment. Body language and vocal tone and inflection play important roles as well.

27. Same here,
I'm more apt to look at the entire face and consider tone of voice and other body language, not just the eyes. With those things, I am quite good at "reading" people.

Still, this "test" gave me a 23/36. No test I've ever taken has mentioned Aspie to me.

For a lot of the pics, none of the choices seemed right, so I guessed. I have two aspies in my close family, and sometimes think I have tendencies in that direction myself. So, I did better than I expected.

Most of them, I simply had no idea and was guessing wildly. Any woman looking sideways I called flirtatious if that choice was available. Anyone with raised eyebrows I called anxious.

54. it seems like you are misreading the emotion behind the eyes
a woman looking sideways can be any emotion but since it is often stereotyped as flirting (in magazines, movies) you picked, well, the most obvious. Interesting. I am wondering, since you cannot spot-read a face on sight - if you give yourself more time to observe a person does that help any?
