My husband and I walked to his family's hometown fireworks celebration. We took the short cut by the golf course and ended up getting shot at with bottle rockets.

But I've lived in some really dodgy neighborhoods in the last ten years, so you never know.


edit: Actually, come to think of it, I was shot with a BB gun when I was a kid. Does that count?

I had a psycho neighbor who hated me. he'd lean out of the down stairs window of his house and shoot at me as I walked on the road that parallels highway 13 in Oakland. down hill about 1000 feet below his house.
he came close to hitting me twice but since there was an active firehouse down the road who called the cops on him he got busted every time. I hit the ground and crawled behind parked cars.

I was also with a group of people who were cutting across a vineyard along the Russian River when some field hands opened up with the rock salt, didn't get hit that time either but a couple of other people did.

Went through the leaves of the tree over my head. Called the Sheriff and surprisingly, he was able to scare the shit out of the parents. they moved out 3 months later to the relief of our rural neighborhood.

28. Yep, missed me but hit my Jeep

A friend and I were headed to his place on night to hang out and we saw a guy getting jumped by three other guys and pulled out of his car on a side street. I turned and we rolled past with my friend, Dan, leaning on the horn. As we got past them and the guy broke free and got into his car, Dan yelled, "One of 'em's got a gun! PUNCH IT!" I floored it and heard three gunshots, one of which hit my left rear tire. Looking in my rearview mirror, I could see the guy peeling out of there and driving the other way.

We went to a nearby friend's apartment and called 911--when the cop showed up and saw that my tire was flat he said, "Are you sure you didn't run over a bottle or something?"

Dan responded, "They weren't throwing bottles at us!"

"Well, I don't see a bullet hole," he said, pointing at the flat tire which I was now in the process of changing. (The bullet hole just happened to be in the sidewall of the tire near the edge that had deflated to the pavement so it wasn't visible until I got the Jeep jacked up enough for the sidewall to pop back out. He was gone by then so he didn't get to see it.)

"So you have three choices: you can file a report or you can not file a report," he continued, not realizing that he'd given us just two choices, not three.

We didn't file a report. The police officer was pretty much zero help. :(

I'm just glad the other guy got away.
