Poll question: Super Bowl vs. Academy Awards |
|
Just saw some new game show on TV tonight on a local CBS channel, where contestants are asked to guess the answer to questions about percentages where the show has conducted some sample poll of Americans. The one that blew my mind is the subject of this poll (the show's answer will be posted in a few days):
What percentage of American women would rather watch the Super Bowl than the Academy Awards?

5. I heard the stat you are referring to |
|
and was quite surprised by the result as well. (I'm not going to vote since I already heard the answer.) FWIW, I'm a male who doesn't care about viewing either of them!

53%.
That's MORE than HALF the American women polled. Blew MY mind, that's for sure.
9 DU'ers guessed below that number, 8 DU'ers guessed within that range or above. 3 of you got the range right: 51%-60%.
I've known there are female football fans ever since I wandered into a large sports bar 20 years ago during a football game and found everyone roaring drunk, including a ton of fairly foul-mouthed women.
But I didn't know any of those women. Every woman I've ever known watches the Academy Awards.
Myself, I watch both the Super Bowl and the Academy Awards. Both feature a bunch of millionaires getting a trophy for just doing their job.

Watching the Academy Awards, with all those prissy people in tuxes and evening gowns, one misses out on all those sweaty, overgrown, lardassed, steroidal, grunting, roaring brutes smashing each other senseless over a funny shaped brown ball.

17. Why Should That Surprise You? |
|
The Academy Awards don't offer much, these days, for the average American woman.

All the women I've ever met watch the Academy Awards. And talk about it a lot. Very few have much interest in the Super Bowl unless, of course, their boyfriends/husbands drag them into watching it.
My personal experience simply doesn't match that poll result.
On edit, it really surprised my wife as well.
We both guessed in the 10%-20% range.
