Which weapon would you want in a battle: Star Wars Lightsaber vs. Star Trek Phaser

Imagine you are in a dark alley and you're approached by some thugs who wish to do you great harm. Would you rather have a lightsaber like those in the Star Wars movie or a Phaser Gun like those found in Star Trek

Never bring a sword to a gunfight. I'd take the saber over anything else though, if they have anything less than a gun.

I always wondered why nobody ever pulled a flamethrower out on the jedi. Sure the light saber will deflect its own blade width--but there'd be PLENTY of fire left over to settle that down!

weapon in the Fifth Element, the one with grenade launchers, shooting nets, bullets that only go after your first initial target, and of course...the weapon would not be complete without the "ever popular flamethrower".....:D

It can stun (and apparently with fewer side effects than a taser), it can kill, and it puts distance between you and the person you've engaged in battle.

I am an old duffer who gets winded pulling my golf cart up hill. Then too, there is the price of .50BMG ammo. A while back on cable, I saw a thing on Dillon Presses and the guy who owns the company. He invites several people out to his place in the Arizona desert and has a machine gun shoot. Had footage of tracers at night. Lots of money going down range. Oh so long ago I didn't consider the cost of shooting full auto because I wasn't paying for it.
