Anyone you slept with every marry one of your friends? |
|
So my friend is now getting extremely serious with someone we both dated the same summer 25 years ago.
I just think it will feel extremely weird if she marries the guy and I have to see him at parties and book club and all that. Yikes.
Although, as another friend mentioned, her sister will probably feel even weirder, since she went out with him, too.
Never had to deal with this before......

1. my friends circle is filled with sexual history. |
|
straight and gay -- we've all fooled around with each other or with each others partners -- at some point.
nobady gets worked up about it.
i mean what would they get worked up about -- it's all sort of how everyone met. -- loosely speaking.

7. Our circle is a lot more boring than that |
|
Some of us know each other spouses or boyfriends from college or social organizations (6th largest in the US or not, Philadelphia is a small town) but this will be a first.
But it was an awfully long time ago, so there is that......

14. Hey tigereye! Summer was pretty good, although I had some bad news the other day. |
|
I had to have my dog put to sleep - I posted about it in the Lounge. :(
Aside from that, the summer went great. And fast, too! How about you? Is your little guy back to school yet? Mine started on Monday. :hi:

we just got back from a vacation in San Francisco. Sigh. I never want to leave that place, but for being unable to afford to live there!
Sorry about your dog. It's so hard when animals are ill. A friend of mine had to have her Corgi put to sleep - it was very hard for her.

17. We all had summer houses down at the beach |
|
when we were in college and ran in the same small circles. The girls waitressed and the guys were lifeguards. Plus we had been in fraternities and sororities at school at the same time - so it was indeed an incestuous little group.
I met this particular guy when he bit me in the butt at a fraternity party (he used to become completely inarticulate when he drank, so he would communicate by doing things like biting) Which is funny because he's now a fairly prominent economist...

15. One guy in my circle of friends has a history with several of my friends. His wife |
|
knows and is fine with it, but sometimes she tends to be a little TMI. I remember hearing about one dinner where she looked around at all the women sitting at the table and said "Wow, all the women here tonight have slept with Jeff!" That was a little awkward, but for the most part it's fine.

20. Yeah - that's just the situation I'm envisioning |
|
Although to some extent it is funny.
One day toward the end of the summer when we were both seeing this guy, my friend and I were having drinks at an outdoor bar, and who walks in but Mr. Juggler, a little disconcerted to see us talking to each other (he hadn't figured out we knew each other). Without any preplanning at all, we went over to him and started petting him and playing with his hair. "You know, my house is empty this afternoon...." "Yeah, and we would LOVE you to come back there with us..." "Well, you know, since you seem to like both of us...."
His eyes got as big as saucers, and he said "uh..umm...uh...I need a beer. Can I get either of you girls a beer?" and he jumped up and scooted over to the bar. It wasn't until he turned around and saw us both falling out of our chairs laughing that he realized 1) we were yanking his chain and 2) we were totally on to him, and his juggling act was done for the summer.

They were together for about a year and half, I think.
She hasn't spoken to me in ten years, but she's got the crazy, so it's no big loss.

21. No. But I was in a very weird situation when I broke up with my first boyfriend. |
|
In my junior year in college, I moved off campus to an apartment. I ended up with two (completely platonic---REALLY) male roommates. My boyfriend became really good friends with one of them. When I broke up with my boyfriend midway through my senior year, they were still friends and continued to be for a long time afterward. My roommates and I parted company (but were still friends) after graduation. A little less than a year later, I started dating the roommmate that was friends with my ex. I kept having to see my ex when he came over to see my then-boyfriend (now my husband), and I didn't WANT to see my ex. I explained to my bf how uncomfortable that was for me, and he understood. He refrained from inviting the ex over when I was around, and it worked out OK eventually.
Yeesh, that was a fucked-up time. :yoiks:

23. Dolo Amber married Hedges. |
|
(Hedges is my ex-husband, for those of you not paying attention in October 2004.)
If you think parties and book clubs are weird...try DU gatherings and playdates (dolo amber's daughter and my SO's daughter are friends). :scared: ;-)
It was 25 years ago -- shouldn't be too weird after awhile. Then again, I'm pretty immune to weird.

24. hell, I performed their marriage ceremony! |
|
For the bachelor party, the brides dad, the groom and I went to a "gentleman's club". I remember on the drive back her dad telling the groom that he had better take good care of his daughter, or he would "rip off his head and shit down his neck."
Oh, and my 1st college girlfriend married one of my buddies. But everyone in that crowd dated her at some point, so it wasn't a big surprise.
Oh, just thought of one gal I had a crush on for 12 years. After both of us had been married and then divorced we dated for a while (12 years of foreplay is pretty intense!). I had known the next guy she married longer then she had lol!
It's never been a big deal for me or the crowd I hang out with - but then again no one in that bunch did the jealousy thing.

Just kidding! ;)
As for me ... marriage, no. I do have a very close friend that has had a 3-ish year relationship (if you can call it that) with a man I ... umm... what? It wasn't dating, and it wasn't a "relationship" ..... friends w/ bennies, I guess. No weirdness and no issues. In fact, the friend liked to talk to me about him because I understood him better than anyone else she knew.

28. I'm still friends with a lot of my ex-boyfriends |
|
A group of us from college are still friends, and the group includes my college boyfriend and another guy who was sorta a friend with benefits. I know their wives and kids. The ex-boyfriend's wife knows all about it but I don't think anyone knows about the fling the other guy and I had.
And a more recent ex-boyfriend is now my good friend. He comes with me to parties that my college friends have about once a year. I was amused when a group photo was taken at one party, and I realized that I had been with 3 of the men in the picture. My current boyfriend knows that I hang out with the recent ex-boyfriend all the time, and he thinks it's great that we're such good friends. :-)
