OMG....Kitteh's tooth fell out!
I had NO idea that cats lost their baby teeth...We were playing with a piece of rope he likes to wrestle with and his tooth came out! :o

I freaked the fuck out, until I googled and saw that this is supposed to happen...He didn't even notice and just kept playing...

:scared:

1. Make sure he has good dental hygeine
too much soft food and not enough crunchy stuff means your cat has to have 5 teeth pull at a $500 vet bill

(thinks evilily about Evita)

3. my cats only get wet food once a week
and the 3 of them share a can of Fancy Feast (small can)

nothing but dry crunchy food the rest of the week (including "Dental Care" food mixed into the "hairball control" stuff)

Siouxsie had to have 8 teeth pulled last year. yep... $800.

I think like people, some cats just have terrible teeth.

12. Not to be contrary but .... dry food does NOT help the teeth.
Not only does it not help the teeth, it helps contribute to other health issues. I thought I was doing the right thing TOO, feeding dry and no canned .... now I have 3 geriatric kitties, one with kidney disease, one with diabetes, and all with crusty teeth.

I had to learn the hard way.

13. I think a combo is best...
My vet seems ok with it. We also use Wellness, which is top notch.

14. All I can say is that you should do your own research.
And for full disclosure I will say that because of convenience and because my 3 have been raised as free feeders I keep Innova Evo (High protein, low carb, no grains) Dry out for them at all times. So no judgements against you are anything from me. They also get fed different combinations of homemade/canned food according to their disorders each day - hopefully helping them limit their dry food intake.

I WILL do things differently when I have cats again.

16. With Sophia it was 6 teeth--but the vet said it was a genetic problem
Nothing I could do to prevent it. She's fine, though.

8. Tell him to lay of the chewin' tobacco
Seriously though, good vibes for the furball.

A few years ago, I found one my mine in the living room with a bloody mouth and shredded claws. The vet thinks she may have been clipped by a car. She had some dental work, then came home all doped up. She was a little stoner kitty for a few hours.

My baby is a bit over 2.5 months, so I have that to look forward to!

15. Yep, they losed their teeth, just like us.
I remember when Gracie's teeth were coming out. She actually stood and barked at one on the carpeting.
silly beagle!

17. Many years ago, I acquired 3 kittens at the same time, and they
all went through the tooth thing together. I was constantly finding teeth in the carpet--usually with my feet. And those little teeth HURT!!! Ouch!

Congratulations--you're baby's growing up!

18. We're headed to the vet tomorrow...
Time for booster shot #3, and to check on the heart murmur that was detected in July. Fingers crossed that it's resolving itself, as we want to get him neutered in October.

27. Barney is like that with medicine bottles
I have to make sure I keep my meds put up because if Barney spies a bottle sitting out, he'll start batting at it until it rolls underneath something and it will take me hours to find it/

21. Yes, they lose their baby teeth, just like human children.
I've found a few little fangs in the rug when I had kittens around. I don't know what the Tooth Fairy brings them, though.

23. one of mine was moping around, acting puny, didn't want to eat
I was holding her and she yawned...she had a swollen gum, and a loose tooth. Pulled the tooth, and she started eating like a little pig. Poor baby, her mouth hurted!

24. I think his adult one is already in!
I read that they can grow in/fall out simultaneously, and I looked in his mouth, and I see no missing tooth! :o

I'll have the Vet check tomorrow though. :)

I'm glad your little one got her relief! Poor kitteh!

25. I think that is true, as my kitty's swelling went down immediately
and new tooth appeared like magic. It was sort of like an impacted wisdom tooth, in a way.

I have had cats all my life and never knew they shed their milk teeth. That lends credence to the theory of the new tooth just pushing the old one out, I wouldn't have know about that one except it got inflamed.

26. One of my kittehs shook her head and
her loose tooth flew right at me. Freaked me out completely until I could look at her mouth and see than she wasn't missing any teeth. I still have her baby tooth, even though she's gone now.
