My aunt is visiting and we eat early, the big meal around noon.
We had chicken fried steak with all the goodies.
We have been canning vegetables for two days, we needed a good meal.

68. Oh, my texanwitch...you are a soul mate. |
|
I have been searching...and searching...and searching for a good chicken fried steak in the Detroit area. It didn't used to be so hard to find. Before any of our southern DUers get all righteous on me (which you probably have a right to), remember a couple things first:
1) Detroit was settled by a lot of southerners during the automotive boom 2) So we used to have really good southern food up this way 3) I'm the first generation of my family raised in the north; I grew up on beans, taters, buttermilk biscuits and chicken fried steak (and of course fried chicken) 4) I am craving me a good chicken fried steak...
...and I can't find one anywhere! My husband (he's Polish, ha ha) says I'm the only person who makes it right. I think it's because of the gravy. He's a gravy wh*re. I did teach him well. :-)

|
sauteed in olive oil with a flavoring of balsamic vinegar and vegetarian Worcestershire Sauce.
Accompanied by a cabbage-potato dish with rosemary, garlic, salt and pepper, tied to the mushroom dish with a splashof balsamic vinegar.
Mushrooms turned out superb. The cabbage-potato was merely good. Mostly I was pulling together odd ingredients and leftovers from the fridge, so not bad.
