or take them elsewhere?

Still too long. I'm sick of this. Do petite people have to go broke to get things done right the first time?

Oh, they'll shrink. Right, another 1 1/2 inches? :eyes:

2. I can't help but I can share the pain.
I know someone who can sew.

I am 5'4", so finding pants the right length is a major pain.

3. Did they pin them while you had them on with the shoes you're going
to wear with them? They should re-hem them for free.

8. What is the fabric? And would you machine wash it? Otherwise he was just telling
you a story because he effed up. And anyway, unless they are raw cotton, I doubt they're going to shrink by an inch and a half. I would take them back and ask him to hem them the way you originally requested. It should be free. Either that or get him to guarantee that he'll fix them if you wash them and they don't shrink enough.

I feel your pain about petite length pants. I'm 5'3.5" so I'm right on the line between petite and regular length. Some petite pants are a bit too short and most regular length pants are waaaaay too long. I'm talking 8-9" too long. Most women are not six feet tall, so I don't understand why regular length pants need to be so long. That's what "tall" sizes are for, n'est ce pas? It's very frustrating.

7. Take them back and insist the work be redone correctly.
And free, since it should have been done right the first time.

9. most fabrics will never shrink 1 1/2 inches
take them back and have the tailor fix them. bring some shoes you will be wearing with these pants. if they aren't high heals the tailor blew it.

I have been wearing tailored pants all my life. occasionally tailors mess up. when they do they should repair for free. I have two pairs of jeans that the tailor screwed up 3 times each. I no longer go to that guy.

Also no two pairs of pants fit exactly the same, at least for men's pants. When I get my pants hemmed of cuffed I always wear shoes I'll be wearing with the pants. I also fill my pockets with the stuff I'll be carrying. That way the tailor can make additional alterations if need to make the pants hang correctly.

my grandfather owned and worked every day of his life in clothing stores. My school teacher dad worked part time in them until they both retired. My brothers & I were indentured servants for years in one of these stores.

10. Take 'em back. I'm petite and my tailor always seems to think
my pants need to be dragging the floor. :eyes:

If I wanted to look like freakin' Gumby, I would SAY so.

But I didn't say so, and I'm looking for a new tailor.
