Poll question: Which weapon do you want in a battle: Death Star vs Doomsday Machine vs Species 8472 Planet Killer
Edited on Thu Aug-30-07 09:22 PM by Rabrrrrrr
vs Galactus

The Death Star is, of course, the ultimate weapon in the universe, though it's labor overhead and construction costs are higher than a 3-bedroom in SOHO.

You can choose either version 1 or version 2

The Doomsday Machine is a powerful weapon, though it seems slow and difficult to control. On the other hand, it seems to have no energy costs or requirements, nor any labor overhead.

Species 8472 Planet Killer is a serious ass kicking weapon, but takes a number of ships. However, it also doesn't require a million people to run it.

Galactus is totally cool, but of course one has the very real and significant problem of high probability of not being able to control it, and it's rather slow (though ultimately complete) destructive action:

8. The Vogon fleet has its points, too
Of course, there's the poetry to deal with, but...

The 8472 Planet Killer has the added benefit of being the only one of the above to be shown destroying a planet specifically to destroy nearby enemy ships. Now that's thinking outside the box!

We could mention the Xindi planet-destroyer, but it seemed dreadfully unstable and long-delayed at the prototype stage.

13. Or the Supernova Bomb from the Krikkit Wars

Any weapon that can destroy the entire universe by linking all the suns via a hyperspace junction has to be respected - even more so if you can launch it with a sparkling off-drive.

15. Good point, and...
Let's not forget the Tralfamadorians' experimental fuel, the use of which actually does result in the destruction of the universe.

So it goes.

17. At least we know it works - I forget, did we test out the Death Star 2?
I knew it blew up a few major ships but did it take care of a planet?

crappy spinoffs from the prequels, and the New Jedi Order series.

Love the X-Wing series, frikkin' brilliant writing. And even though the Wraith Squadron series starts of with a cliche, it takes off running into some entirely non-cliched territory. :) Only a few books have ever made me get misty-eyed and/or sniffly, and one of the Wraith Squadron books is among them. :) You really get connected to the characters. It's not the typical powerful jedi vs. immense evil story, it's about the little guys.
