Swam 50 yards underwater !
25 yards to the wall, turned around, and 25 yards back. W/O taking a breath! Probably if you don't swim you won't get it, but let's just say I'm a lifelong swimmer and never did it before. Who says 38 is over the hill?

1. When I was seven I could swim to the bottom of the diving pool
I thought that was a cool accomplishment at the time. I thinks the best I ever did underwater was swim across the pool twice - I'm guessing 25 yards total. Good on you.

2. That mighta been...
50 yards total. Depending on the pool. My head would explode if I swam to the bottom of anything over 6 feet. Nice work.

4. I think the pool was six lanes wide
Each lane was about six foot? 36 ft doubled is 72 feet or just about 25 yards total.

Now my Pop, he was the SWIMMER and could comfortably swim that fifty yards underwater. He won a water polo scholarship back in the thirties and kept up with his swimming his entire life. Even in his seventies he was a strong swimmer and went through the water very efficiently with hardly a ripple. I can't say the same for my stroke, and accordingly, I refuse to swim in salt water for fear my thrashing might attract sharks.

5. We had to do the width underwater (25m)
without pushing off or diving in, to qualify for scuba class in college.

Congrats on your 50.

9. I get it, congrats. did you come and do a flip turn?
That's what I used to do when trying that. When I was 15 I put on a pair of fins and did about 85 meters, but came up and did flip turns, no breath of course.

I can go up and back in one breath in our pool at home, but that is only 80 ft. Can't imagine doing that twice.

11. Nice.
Back when I swam on a normal basis I could do at least 25 meters in one breath, sometimes about 35. Never could measure it exactly, was just one sideways lap in an olympic sized pool with a bit of a second. :)

31. Was there a reason that you did it or just the personal challenge?
I did that in my early teens when my sister and I had competitions (for the sake of competing against each other) like that.
When I was on the swim team, when I swam 50 yard freestyle in meets, I tried to not breathe also. In some ways that is easier because you are above water, but harder because you are swimming at full speed.
Congrats though. It sounds like it was a personal goal of yours.

33. Keep going for more distance...but don't drown
I love swimming underwater. So I always challenge myself as to how far I can swim with one breath. If you keep working at it, you go further. Though swimming under surf, I've found bottom currrents to give me a push. Wow! That's flying.

Though it's been a few years since I've had a swim. The last flat I lived in had a pool. But it was basically a drunk pool. Ultra shallow for party people. I always came out with scraped knuckles and knees from the bottom.
