Who knew? Report: Another Baseball Team Almost Does Something As Interesting As Yankees, Red SoxNOT BOSTON OR NEW YORK—Something nearly worth reporting occurred either Saturday or Sunday—although no written records of the event exist, analysts claim it was the same day the Yankees beat the Mets to take the Subway Series—when the Minnesota Twins squandered a large late-game lead to the Brewers, but then won the game when Jason Morneau hit a walkoff home run in a manner eerily reminiscent of Red Sox slugger David Ortiz. "Manny Ramirez has really started heating up at the plate as of late, and you know what that means—opposing pitchers had better watch out," ESPN's Sean McAdam said when asked about Corey Hart's eighth-inning homer that cut the Twins' lead to two. "But if the Yankees rotation stays healthy and Abreu keeps swinging a big stick, it will be a tight race down the stretch. Should be a fun summer." Prince Fielder, Torii Hunter, Jeff Suppan, and Joe Nathan were unavailable for comment, as they are not Derek Jeter, Curt Schilling, Johnny Damon, or Alex Rodriguez.

I'm not saying that. The pennant races are cracklin' all over the AL and NL, and SportsCenter (ESPN)---for one---are covering a lot of them. I'm actually excited to get more of a glimpse of the other match-ups and standings than I ordinarily do.
What can I say...I live in NYC, and it's pretty Yankess&Mets-centric around here for most of the season.
This week, though, seemed clouded for the Y's, and the outcome (of this round) surprised me more than filled me with hometown pride. I was really surprised not to see more on DU about it, but the bathroom-stall story, among others, seems to be more in vogue now. Plus, football is starting up, and folks everywhere are getting psyched about that.
I didn't mean my post to overshadow anything else going on in baseball. I was just remarking.

As a "flyover" state sports fan, I found it particularly true regarding ESPN's baseball coverage.
But good on ya team... even if maybe, somewhere else in the country, some other team did something almost worth mentioning. :hi:
