Question for techs re internet video formats |
|
I have ADSL, which is the best we can get out here in the burboonies, so my download rate is only about 300 kB. When watching video at YouTube and other sites, I can keep it from "coughing" by pausing it as soon as the video starts and letting it buffer. But on some other sites, this doesn't work — it seems as though the stream stops when the video's paused. What's the difference, and is there a way I can get around it?

1. I'm in the boonies with the Slowskies as well |
|
I get about 1Mb/s though, but it's still a problem.
What you want to do is let the video load and play itself out. Turn the speakers off while it's doing this or it will drive you insane.
Then hit "replay" which is almost always an option.

2. That doesn't work either |
|
Not with this format, whatever it is.
I was just trying to watch Letterman's Top 10 with Hillary. I jerked through it once, then hit replay and jerked through it again.
And I'd LOVE to get 1 mB, ya bastid. x(

I had to upadate the version I had and sure enough replay initiates another data stream. Can't help ya, chief. It should be on youtube by tomorrow. ______________________ ETA: The new version of RealPlayer will let you download Internet video: http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/06/01/New-RealPlayer-will-let-you-download-Internet-video_1.html?WEB%20APPLICATIONSI still hate it. Don't let it become your default media player.

5. If you use Firefox you could download the video to your drive. |

Some stream and other upload
The only thing you can do is get a faster connection. Unfortunately, that'll have to wait until one comes around.
