School House Rocks!
Today the kids are home from school so I pulled out a DVD of School House Rocks for them to watch while I am finishing up stuff for the office...

Boy what a great idea...too bad we don't see these on TV anymore..

Just finished watching the one on the Constitution...perfect for kids!

2. I own them all on VHS
Wonderful stuff, even if my oldest (15 years) says the music is 'so 1980's'...

5. That would make it a good decade ahead of its time...
...given that most of the segments were made in the 70s!

But since she was born in the late 80s, I'm inclined to cut her some slack on that distinction. :-)

7. I knew I'd get a comment...
Yes, anything before her time is 'so 1980's'... doesn't matter if it's disco, the Beatles, or Bach...

(apoligies for true music fans for linking disco to The Beatles and Bach)

Hookin' up words and phrases and clauses ...

I loved School House Rock! I'll never forget ... in the 5th grade, our teacher gave us history test and there were "extra credit" points if you knew the entire preamble to the Constitution. Everyone got the points - we were all quietly singing the School House Rock preamble song. The teacher was floored! :D

edited for spelling

10. There's only one reason...
...why I have the preamble to the Constitution memorized, and why if I say it out loud, I have to remember not to sing it.

-AA

P.S. purely as a piece of English, isn't the preamble one of the most beautiful and perfect examples you can think of?

11. It is a beautiful example of the English language..
"We, the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
