Edited to add the first band I saw there was Archers Of Loaf. I never liked them but my girlfriends roommate was going out with the drummer...

Not the band but have you heard the version of Buddha Buddha on the Songs for Sixty Five Roses CD? It's performed Robert Sledge from the Ben Folds Five and Mosher and Maxwell from the Squirrel Nut Zippers.
